Donald Trump Megadonor Abandons Him As He Predicts Collapse in Support
Newsweek via MSN ^ | 22 May 23 | Ewan Palmer

Posted on 05/22/2023 4:09:24 AM PDT by Erik Latranyi

A top GOP donor who previously backed Donald Trump has announced that he will be supporting Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Election.

Hal Lambert, founder and CEO of Texas-based Point Bridge Capital, said he wants to "do a lot to help DeSantis win" amid strong speculation the Florida governor will confirm his presidential campaign in the coming days.

Lambert, who set up an exchange-traded fund named after the former president's Make America Great Again 2016 campaign slogan, MAGA ETF, and previously served on Trump's inaugural committee in 2016, told the New York Post that he decided to back DeSantis after meeting with him and wife in Florida three weeks ago.

Lambert said he was also put off by Trump's recent CNN town hall, where the former president continued to falsely claim the 2020 Election was "rigged."

"What voters who didn't vote for Trump in 2020 are going to vote for him this time based on his performance? I don't think anyone will," Lambert told The Post. "We can't talk about things from four years ago that can't be changed.

"Trump is going to have a difficult time winning the general election. The election won't be about Joe Biden's bad record. It will be a referendum on Trump instead."

It is reported that DeSantis will file paperwork declaring his presidential candidacy on May 25 to coincide with a donor meeting in Miami, before a formal announcement a few days later.

OH IT’S OVER if ,Hal somebody of Texas said he wants to “do a lot to help DeSantis win” amid strong speculation the Florida governor will confirm his presidential campaign in the coming days.
Obviously Hal thinks that because he has a lot of money he can swing Florida to DeSantis.
Clearly Hal doesn’t know very much about the climate in Florida and must think I’m talking about temperature outside.
Here in Florida as almost everywhere else, Trump is favored 2 to 1 over DeSantis.
Hal somebody’s public support only underlines the problem of a DeSantis run IT IS MONEY!
Oh DeSantis will have lots of money but it won’t be his as Trump’s is. The money DeSantis gets will be given in return for him saying and doing whatever the greedy short sighted NeverTrumpers say he will. That means he will be George Bush all over again and I say no thanks.

It’s so much easier to accuse someone of cheating than to accept you played right into their hands and continue to do so.

Really?

Rather than an ad hominem attack on someone calling them a hypocrite, you might wonder why I would approve of someone taking a stance on something four years ago, and the fact, absolute fact, that those reasons I might not approve of someone taking a stance today on something I vehemently disagree with.

But all you can come out with is an ad hominem attack, calling me a hypocrite.

I suggest you put your big-boy pants on if you want to post topics like this, because guess what Buttercup, people are going to disagree with you. I suspect I approved far more of his reasons for backing Trump back in 2016, than I approve of his reasons today for backing DeSantis:

"We can't talk about things from four years ago that can't be changed..." is WHY he is backing DeSantis and not Trump.

Perhaps you don't think election integrity is important.

I would have to conclude that, since you support this candidate who thinks we should just sweep the election fraud under the rug. And given its primacy in the article, it sure seems like his primary reason for backing DeSantis.

Here is a suggestion: Instead of calling someone a hypocrite because they changed their mind, why don't you ask them (or, even better, take the time to read a post on a thread you started) why they changed their mind.

Unless, of course, you believe nobody is allowed to change their mind for any reason, even including election fraud, and hearing a major donor saying that it isn't important.

You do know that Trump only donated a few thousand of his own money to his 2020 campaign and that the rest came from individual donors, big-money PACs, Wall Street types, big Pharma and other corporations and huge law firms?

This idea that Trump funded everything himself and only took a few bucks from small donors is untrue. Go to the FEC website and look up Trump’s direct donors and his PAC donors. It’s all there in black and white.

The idea that because Trump has money he’s therefore incorruptible or not beholden to large donors is a ridiculous lie.

Trump is going to have a difficult time winning the general election.

That's because the left has mastered the crime of stealing elections and not necessarily because support for Trump will collapse.

IMO, if Trump wins the nomination the general election will be 100% about Trump and not the complete mess Biden has created.

Here is what will likely happen.

The legal challenges Trump faces are all bogus, wrong and completely unfair, but they will still be major issues.

Trump is already facing 1 criminal indictment in NY and has a Civil Judgement against him in a rape case.

It’s very likely the Georgia Grand Jury will indict him later this summer and he will likely be indicted in Washington over his handling of classified documents.

All the cases are bogus.

Trump will go into the General Election facing 3 criminal indictments and a Civil Judgement in a rape case.

Ask yourself what the MSM and the Democrats will focus on, Trump’s legal problems or the disaster Biden created.

Then assume Trump wins the General Election, if he’s convicted of any crime in the 3 cases, how fast will Democrats and RINO Republicans move to impeach him, which this time could very well succeed.

What talking points?

The MSM talking points that there was no fraud in the 2020 election. There absolutely was. Have you not figured out that the MSM has lied it's ass off on virtually every big story for the last ten years? There was no Russian Collusion, Obama did wiretap Trump, hillary did have a secret server with classified info that anybody could access, the pandemic was way overstated, the masks didn't work, the vaccine is ineffective at best and slightly dangerous in some instances, biden really did engage in bribery with ukraine and china, hunter's laptop is real, vindman's impeachment testimony was a lie, the ukraine counter offensive is a joke, the mar a Lago raid was a joke, the FBI really did engage in an illegal political coup, the patriot front is a deep state astroturfing, the e. jean carroll rape lawsuit was complete nonsense....I mean why would you believe anything coming out of the DNC propaganda machine?

Fact 1: Trump will win the primary.

Fact 2: Trump beats dopey Joe handily in the polling.

Fact 3: DeSantis barely breaks even against even Harris. That's pathetic.

Fact 4: DeSantis can't win without Trump supporters who far surpass DeSantis supports even if he were to win the primary - which he won't (see Fact 1).

Fact 5: The fraud machine is still in place for 2024.

Fact 6: DeSantis doesn't have enough of a lead to overcome Fact 5. Trump does.

Maybe he'll have better luck in 2028. I hope so.

If DeSantis wins the Republican Presidential nomination, he will run into the same dirty tricks that doomed Trump in 2020. It was low tech, old school ballot box stuffing and mishandling of Republican votes Boss Tweed, the Pendergasts, and Richard Daley would have recognized, but on a multistage, well coordinated program. Biden's own words were that the Democrats had best voter fraud in American history.

One caveat: if the Deep State wants America to go to war with Russia or China, they may want a Republican in the White House. A President DeSantis would motivate white males to join the military. Even a surface clean up of the perversion nonsense and the white guilt propaganda would do wonders. Normal white men are shunning the armed services. As a small example, my church, a mid-sized conservative evangelical congregation in the DFW area, had a graduating class of 25 high school seniors, almost all white. Not one was joining the armed services. This was not the case 15 or 20 years ago.

The Deep State may need cannon fodder of we go to war. Biden, Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, or Michelle Obama will not inspire young white men to enlist.

If Trump shuts up and focuses on policy, he can win. Once in office, he can then do whatever he thinks a POTUS can do to change state election laws.

Until then, people want someone with solutions.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WTF are you smoking??? Trump already has a proven track record as a president. A president who had his legs cut out from him every step of the way by the deep state, yet still managed to get more done in 3 years than the last 4 presidents combined. Then they released covid to take him out and it worked. If you don’t or refuse to understand that then you have the IQ of a gnat.
Compare pudding heads record with Trump.
You don’t seem to want to do that. Instead, you want to parrot CNN talking points.
You are a f’ing clown.
Learn civics.
The POTUS cannot do much about election fraud. It is a state matter. Or do you support federalizing elections now the same way Trump wants to federalize aboriton?
I live in Pennsylvania. I know the fraud machine and do not want to sweep anything under the rug.
But until we can control the levers of power over elections again, so we can eliminate vote by mail, ballot harvesting, etc. like DeSantis did in Florida, whining on the national level helps nobody.
Again, those who agree the 2020 was stolen are on Trump's side. If he wants to win, he needs to talk about what people want to hear....solutions to save them from Biden's policies.
I never said there was no fraud in 2020.
I only agree with many that Trump needs to stop whining about it and focus on getting voters who are suffering from the communist policies.
Adulation does not directly translate to electability.
There must be a fight of major proportions. Trump will never fight. When he can’t deal, he loses.
The past is always the major thought of conservatives when that thought should and must about the future.
That’s wishful thinking, if you openly cheat and win elections and nothing is done about it, what makes you think the other side will voluntarily disarm themselves.
If anything they will cheat more without the fear of getting caught, what stops them.
This is why talking about past cheating is a waste of time, you can’t clean up the election process without winning elections first and complaining about cheating has proven to be a losing strategy.
You play the game with the rules that exist, not the rules you wish existed. Either the Republicans get in the game and develop winning strategies for ballot harvesting, voting early and universal mail in voting or they will cease to exist at the national level.
Trump can win if he just shuts up about 2020 and stays focused on the communist policies that are making people suffer.
I'm not saying 2020 wasn't stolen or that nothing should happen about it. But constantly bringing it up and being baited by it helps nobody.
No one is saying Trump can’t get the nomination. We’re all saying, including this donor, he’s got a snowball’s chance in hell of winning the general because of the choices he’s made to put his ego and grievances over policy and forward looking strategy.
If Trump had moved away from 2020 and focused forward he would’ve been almost unstoppable going into 2024. Instead all he did was stick with reliving past glories and whining about the last contest.
Being right doesn’t mean a thing if you can’t win so you should do everything you can to win. He’s doing everything he can to massage his bruised ego. He’s not trying to win. He’s accepted the terms the Dems have decided to fight on: Trump drama is the issue rather than policy. It’s pathetic he can’t see it. This is the same Free Republic that mocked and protested AlGore as a sore loser in 2000 yet too many can’t see the any mistakes in Trump. They are Trumpophiles and not America First, MAGA, conservatives. Where’s the accountability?
Some of us including this donor, if you read his words, that Trump hasn’t been and isn’t going what he needs to do to win the general. Trump is forcing us to look elsewhere to Save America from another four years of Joe. It’s disappoint and frustrating. More so if you’re like me and don’t think DeSantis is the one.
You said “Makes sense-not”.
I will be kind here and say that you should perhaps think more deeply about it, because it only “makes sense-not” when you examine this superficially, which is what you are doing.
The “man’s point” is that because he thinks Election Fraud should be ignored, Trump is therefore a bad candidate because he won’t ignore it and will polarize people.
Perhaps you feel differently. Perhaps you feel that focusing on people breaking the law to steal an election is divisive and will drive the precious “independent voters” to the other side seems to be the primary concern.
That very much sounds like “We need to find a way to find a middle ground with the Left on abortion so we can win elections”.
If one views abortion as in practice, the ending of human life to engage in birth control, then one isn’t going to find middle ground with people who celebrate it.
In like fashion, if one views the sacred covenant we have with our government as being valid only if we get to choose who governs us, and that that process to choose is free and fair, then there isn’t a damned four year statute of limitations on it, because if there is, we are no longer a republic.
So, anyone who says that we should let it go, as this “megadonor” does, indicates his interests are more focused on his own money, power, and influence than they are on the well-being of this republic and I want nothing to do with him.
Trump puts the country first, not his donors.
Whichi is why the political elites find his so exasperating.
And its one reason former Trump donors are backing DeSantis.
What a laugh.
It won’t slow down the Trump train one iota.
YIO assume Trump supporters are simplistic?
Sure ifluence is traded for donations as in allpolitics with Trump, but the fact is that they do not run Trump like they would DeSantis. TRump supporters know this and will never leave Trump for the Governor, who is really chump change compared to the ability Trump has.
