IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said Monday that Black taxpayers may be getting audited at significantly higher rates than non-Black taxpayers.
“Our initial findings support the conclusion that Black taxpayers may be audited at higher rates than would be expected given their share of the population,” Werfel wrote to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).
A study out of Stanford University that found audit rates could be as much as five times higher for Black taxpayers than white taxpayers. Wyden asked Werfel to investigate the matter after the latter took the helm of the federal tax collection agency earlier this year.

I don’t believe anything the politicized IRS says.
Don’t believe it. Many black Americans don’t pay taxes.
Same with prison rates... commit MORE robberies, rapes and car jacks and MORE of your racial group will be in prison relative to percentages of other racial groups.
Sounds like BS and a made up story.
The racists IRS agents see name like Jerome Jackson or Milvin Washington or Letisha Jones..and they audit them.
Could that be that the audited don’t pay their taxes at a higher rate?
The entire article is BS. I worked for the IRS in civil enforcement through the 70’s and mid 80’s. If anything, the IRS is biased in favor of blacks and Hispanics. I have no reason to believe that system has changed materially in the 30+ years since I left that corrupt agency.
Non-filing was common among black and Hispanic communities. If we managed to get returns (income, employment, excise) filed, getting the taxes paid was another rarity. There were areas in Oakland, East San Jose, Baltimore where it was simply too dangerous for a white Revenue Officer like me to go to attempt to collect any tax owed. Often we were told by management to just write their accounts off as uncollectible. Enforcement actions such as levy, seizure and sale were extremely rare—even discouraged. Even with plain evidence of criminal evasion it was almost impossible to get Criminal Investigation to file charges against members of those communities. Equal justice? Ha, ha, ha!
Maybe not paying your taxes makes it more likely to get audited.
Watermelon or KFC chicken stains on the form ... cagey IRS thugs notice the little things.
So now they get a free pass on income tax evasion on top of all the other free passes?
the reparations also claim money for over policing of black rapists, robbers, con men and murderers. Don’t do the crime and you won’t do the time.
MATH IS TOUGH-—and RACIST !!!!
Correct. EITC is so full of fraud. They get audited the most because it’s abused the most.
The audit is generated if your return meets certain criteria--usually a return that reports a certain level of sch C income but does result in any tax. Some folk like to file false Sch Cs and claim income that they did not earn and dependents they do not have to get refundable credits to which they are not entitled. (There is a blue print circulating in some communities on how to do this.) This results in a correspondence audit requesting records for businesses that do not exist. Not based on the name unless you habitually file inaccurate or false returns and got on the naughty list (talking to you Wesley Snipes!) The not so reverand Al Sharpster is a apparently on the untouchable list.
Returns with dodgy content such as fraudulent Earned Income Credit claims, are flagged by computer systems. The question is why are AA’s submitting “troubled” returns at such a high rate?
In proportion to how they vote democrat?
How fitting.
Right. Audited like everyone else. Not more than.
It’s just another way to divide us.
It’s because of the Earned Income Tax Credit. There are more audits because compliance cannot be tested otherwise. And these are people who supposedly can't get a drivers license to vote... but who know the qualification thresholds for EITC precisely.
