This column will be timely whenever you read it. Some horrible mass shooting will be in the headlines; one always is. Followed inevitably by pathetic wails of pain. “Do something!”
But there is nothing we can do today to end or even reduce the carnage inflicted on America by gun violence. Neither the no-longer-shocking massacres in our schools, bars and businesses nor the torrent of 53 “regular” gun murders daily is going away any time soon.
Thoughts and prayers won’t stop it, “reasonable gun regulation” won’t, even if we could get such laws passed, which we can’t. We are trapped in a death spiral of spent ammunition and wasted lives. The problem only gets worse, year after year after decade.
But we are not helpless. There is a way forward, if we stop thinking about magic fixes and realize that tackling the problem of gun violence is not the work of today or tomorrow. It is the work of generations. It is, at minimum, a 50 year job, but that clock won’t start until we get serious.
Getting serious means repealing, or drastically amending, the Second Amendment. The Supreme Court has decided that “a well-regulated militia” includes gang bangers and wild-eyed loners with a grudge. They say the Constitution makes it impossible to pass the gun laws that an overwhelming majority of the American people want. But the Constitution is not a suicide note. The Second Amendment can be amended, even repealed.
Most Americans aren’t for repeal yet, and the gun lovers will be outraged by the mere suggestion that their gun rights aren’t sacrosanct. So be it. As I said, this is a work for generations, and big ideas always take that long to percolate from the fringes to reality.

Arm the schools just like we do Congress and the Senate. Allow teachers to carry in the classroom.
Tighten NICS checks by interfacing mental health records to criminal records.
Stop cashless bail.
Cultivate local resources to stand watch posts at public events.
Arrest, convict, and INCARCERATE crimes committed with firearms.
National Reciprocity for concealed carry permit holders.
There’s a lot we can do. DC just doesnt have the guts...

As soon as we implement common sense Licensing, Training, Registration of all persons claiming to be a journalist that uses a High Capacity Transmission Device for compensation or gain. With Severe Penalties for making deliberate false or misleading statements and pawning them off as “News”
When the powers that be adopt this BS, that is our call to action

That’s the part they particularly hate.
If they find a legal way to repeal the 2nd rest assured the 1st will not be far behind.
In the past it was believed that no amendment could be removed, till they found a way to repeal the 18 amendment by simply writing a new amendment 21 amendment.
Yet the first TEN begins with these words..”Congress shall make no law.....” a limit upon the Congress.
Plenty of mental health issues could be tackled first, honky.
You can remove the second amendment. Go ahead. The federal government still doesn’t have authority to regulate firearms. The bill of rights simply addressed issues very important to the framers. The enumerated powers of the federal government do not include firearms.

This moron “seriously” equates overturning of Roe v Wade (judicial decision moving abortion issues to the states) with removal of an amendment to the Constitution of the US. Good luck with that, bigalgoldstein...
I think it’s time to ban and deport gun control nuts. Tear up their American citizenship and just drop them in some country like N. Korea.
Fact: Guns prevent an estimated 2.5 million crimes a year or 6,849 every day. The gun is never fired in 98%+ of the incidents, and no blood (including the criminal’s) is shed.
