Sales data is out now showing the first week of the conservative-led boycott of Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Bud Light brand following the world’s largest beer maker’s March Madness activation with Dylan Mulvaney...
According to off-premise data from market research firm NIQ (formerly NielsenIQ) for the week ending April 8, packages of Bud Light showed accelerating sales and share declines, while Molson Coors’ competing light lager brands Coors Light and Miller Lite showed “a notable uptick” in sales and share, per Dave Williams of Bump Williams Consulting.
“That being said, while the increased declines for Bud Light were apparent, they were also not completely earth shattering in terms of magnitude,Now, this will be interesting to monitor over upcoming weeks to see if this slide continues, but for now it looks to be rough, but not catastrophic.”
week ending April8, Bud Light posted declines in off-premise dollar sales (nearly -7%), volume (-10.7%) and dollar share (-3.7%). By comparison, for the week ending April 1, Bud Light recorded declines in dollar sales (-1.6%), volume (-6.4%), and dollar share (-0.7%), according to NIQ data, shared by Williams.
“On the surface, the trends for Bud Light definitely do show some variance when it comes to sales with some showing sharper declines in the L1W vs. others,” Williams wrote. “On top of just dollar trends though, it’s been Bud Light’s share of [the] premium [segment] for the L1W that tells a pretty consistent story where Bud Light lost share to a more notable degree to its competitors.”
...Year-to-date through April 8, Bud Light’s off-premise dollar sales are down -0.4%, volume -5.6%, and dollar share -0.8%, per NIQ data shared by Williams. Coors Light dollar sales are +1.8% while volume declined -4.3%, and dollar share was flat. Miller Lite dollars are +7.4%, volume +1.5% and dollar share +1%.

Let’s see what the numbers look like in a few months.
I guess men who dress up like women never materialized as a big market for Bud.
I do not see how Year to date numbers really matter. I agree the effect will take a few months. Some consumers may not have been aware of the issue during the first week.
Question:
How do I boycott a company with which I never do business?
A “boycott” is announced by someone in order to get others to hurt a company.
This is just individuals choosing to not buy that product.
I would think a key factor would be stockage orders from retailers and bars. How much restock is being ordered? How about keg sales?
Eventually, they’ll notice water in the hallways and missing crewmembers.
Coors is fag beer, as well.
I don’t know...I would sometimes purchase Goose Island IPA at a bar. Sometimes I would buy Four Peaks in the grocery store. I definitely would buy Elysian beers at times, which is the most unfortunate one to drop as far as I am concerned. People forget all the craft breweries AB/Inbev purchased in the 2010’s.
So cutting those hurts a little, but definitely doable.
well, InBev beers sold in the USA are
Budweiser
Bud light
Kona
Michelob Ultra
Stella Artois
Estrelia
Busch
Natural light
Landshark
Presidente
Hoegaarden
Shock Top

Well played.
Coors Light...carbonated water with the slightest aftertaste of rotten hay. I just can’t understand how anyone that actually likes alcohol can tolerate even a sip of that crap. It is by far the worst of the worst.
“3 Roengten. Not good but not terrible.”
Yes it does have the same Vibe as that movie. In fact watching the USA news media is like watching the miniseries Chernobyl. sad
The cheap beer market is very volatile but also fungible.
People buy what’s cheap, but little factors like the Mulvaney thing can cause enough damage to hurt profits for a long, long time.
At Walmart right now, a six pack of Bud Light is $9.27.
A six pack of Miller Lite is $10.73.
A six pack of Coors Light is $8.73.
A six pack of Rolling Rock is $6.73.
Now this is the Walmart nearest to me in Alabama. Your prices may vary due to regional sales, etc.
But if I was an underpaid, thirsty beer drinker I’d get the Rolling Rock and Coors light first. It would be easy to shun Bud Light, especially if my buddies saw me drinking it and belittled me for it.
36 packs are $23
That’s nice. Otherwise, i can’t boycott what i never partook.
It seems that my eyes can’t alight anywhere that has not been defiled by Dylan Mulvaney. Yesterday, I learned that he is now the face of not 1, but 2 cosmetics brands - MAC and Maybelline. I wear very little makeup. So it wouldn’t be meaningful for me to renounce the use of those brands. I do hope, though, that other consumers do.
