A 20-year-old Colorado woman was killed after a large rock was thrown at her vehicle. The victim was one of at least five victims of rock attacks on cars in the Denver area.

Around 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, a large rock was launched at a yellow Chevy Spark. At the time of the attack, Alexa Bartell was on the phone with her friend. The phone call went silent.

Bartell's friend used an app to locate Alexa’s phone. The friend found Alexa's Spark in a field off the road. The 20-year-old woman was dead inside her car near Denver, Colorado.

Police suspect that the rock was thrown from another vehicle or from the side of the road.

What do you want to bet that the perpetrator was high on pot?

Anyone in on $100?

Similar incident happened on one of the L.A. freeways a number of years ago. Dumb kids were throwing rocks off of a freeway bridge onto approaching cars, and one of the rocks went through a windshield and killed one of the individuals in the vehicle. The idiots were arrested and prosecuted but I can’t recall what penalties were administered.

If the murderer is of a protected racial, ethnic, religious, political, or sexual class nothing will be done.

“What do you want to bet that the perpetrator was high on pot?”

Bad bet if you’ve worked in nightclubs and had experience with countless people that heavily abuse both.

FAR dumber and more violent things are done after too much alcohol. People that only smoked cannabis were generally much nicer to bouncers/staff. It was not even close...

We had this same problem in Seattle, and yes, it came from people associated with the homeless encampments. In the first half of 2021, there were 75 known incidents. Some people were arrested, there seemed to be a lull, and now it’s starting again.

I have seen homeless people throwing debris into the traffic lanes on the freeway at morning commute times. They are some of the ones that seem angry about everything. Marijuana is not the root cause of stupidity it is the result of stupidity. People who fear that other people are hopped up on marijuana cigarettes are the ones that want drug laws that make criminals out of harmless people that end up overwhelming the justice system. Resources spent interdicting drugs and prosecuting users could be better used stopping robberies and burglaries. Of course proponents of drug laws think that they are getting to the root of the problem of criminality.

My point is that pot great reduces inhibitions, not causes behavior.

My bet stands.

There was a rash of deaths in Detroit in the 1970s from kids dropping bricks, cinder blocks, and bowling balls off of bridges onto the freeway traffic below. (In Detroit, most of the freeways are below surface level.)

This prompted the DOT to add fencing to all freeway overpasses and pedestrian bridges.

I was talking to my husband last night and asked him if it seemed like people were getting more evil. I get that we are constantly pumped with unbalanced, negative perspectives from the stupid media, and I have no way of quantifying it, but dang. He agrees that it just seems people here are getting more outrageous. Drugs and nihilism.

Rocks, rocks are the problem. They need to have people get registrations for Rocks. No possession of Rocks unless you pass a background check. You shouldn’t have the right to protect yourself with a Rock. Rocks are a problem, and unless you limit access to Rocks, they are going to go in and kill children. Maybe even at schools. Camouflage and Black rocks are ‘assault’ Rocks, and must be made illegal. There should be a limitation on Rocks any one, or area, can hold at one time. Drugs don’t kill people, Rocks kill people.

Meth is more likely. If meth users weren’t already mentally ill before they started using, they most certainly are after.

People who use pot most likely are going to be using other substances as well.

These cases seem to be prosecuted very lightly.

I remember a case from 30 years ago...a man dropped a rock off an overpass and it struck a baby in a car seat, killing her instantly. He got about five years.

Some teenagers threw a frozen turkey at an uncoming car. Broke every bone in the driver’s face, she was in a coma, traumatic. They were sentenced to a couple years.

It’s felony murder at the least. Not manslaughter. Not assault. I think you’d be more likely to survive if someone took a single shot at your car than dropped a rock through your windshield.

That hardly exonerates the pot use.
