The homeowner who allegedly shot a black teen in the head after he mistakenly rang his doorbell in Kansas City was hit with two felony counts on Monday as prosecutors said he could spend the rest of his life in jail.
Andrew D. Lester, 85, was charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action for the shooting of 16-year-old Ralph Yarl in a crime that had a “racial component,” according to the Clay County Prosecutor Office.
Lester was not immediately arrested on Monday evening. A bond of $200,000 was set for the suspect.......

By the way, dullard, the kid isn’t dead. That’s just something else that got by your tiny intellect.
The article says the teen “never crossed the door.” It also says the man shot through the glass door.
So, for now, it sounds like the man opened his front door (or it was already open) and then shot through a closed glass screen door.
.
This case sounds similar to the 1990’s case of the Japanese exchange student who went to the wrong house and was shot to death.
In this case, thankfully, the teen survived. He sounds like a good kid: https://nypost.com/2023/04/16/black-teen-ralph-yarl-shot-after-ringing-wrong-doorbell-while-trying-to-pick-up-siblings/
He plays the bass clarinet and was hoping to study chemical engineering at Texas A&M. From the article: “A talented musician and scholar, Ralph is a member of his school’s Technology Student Association and Science Olympia Team and plays on the jazz and competition band . . . he recently earned Missouri All-State Band recognition with an honorable mention.”
Of course, there could be more to the story. But, right now, it sounds like the man shot an innocent kid.
Jeez, how badly hurt could he be. The most serious injury was likely the shot to the head. He ran after being shot and was taken to hospital. He was discharged from the hospital yesterday (Sunday,April 16th) after less than 3 full days being treated. I suspect a possible graze wound.
His GoFundMe fundraiser has already raised over $2.1 million and counting.

I agree he should be charged. But there is another side to this story. If the aiuthorities won’t put the criminals in jail, then you’re naturally going to see incidents like these. People are motivated by fear. And they’ve got no one to protect them other than themselves.
Here’s to Andy dying alone in jail.
I only go to a few twitter sites and can’t find it so it must have been removed.
At least the kid is okay and this man will not be charged with murder or manslaughter.
We need sources.
Yes, I’m glad the kid will be ok.
Not knowing the kid, but it doesn’t look good for the homeowner.
This trial alone, at his age, could be a life sentence.
Massad Ayoob had a funny quip in a video concerning how various people respond to answering doorbell at three in the morning (armed or not):
“What in the [heck] are you doing answering the door at three in the morning?”
Article says he was shot with a .32 revolver”
Same caliber as James Bond’s pistol...
I started that video, but never finished it. :)
Ironically, the KS, MO crimemap (CityProtect) is nonfunctional tonight.
This is the neighborhood:
I forgot that you made the dumbass list.
You can ignore my comment.
I don’t answer my door after dark period.
Really don’t know just what prompted the shooting, just what the kids family is saying.
Who knows at 84 could be, could have had a few breaking too
he might of been asleep already at that age too, which affects how you see and interpret the situation
I agree, the kids seems like a really good kid and this was all a terrible accident.
But that wont matter in the end because the blacks are marching and calling for this poor old mans head.
That should be a disclaimer in bold at the top of every thread.
Remember, the media lies about almost everything!
“No mention that it is a REALLY bad neighborhood.”
Residents who were interviewed said that it’s a good neighborhood.
