Gun deaths among U.S. children and teens rose 50% in two years

The number of children and teens killed by gunfire in the United States increased 50% between 2019 and 2021, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of the latest annual mortality statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic, there were 1,732 gun deaths among U.S. children and teens under the age of 18. By 2021, that figure had increased to 2,590.

The gun death rate among children and teens – a measure that adjusts for changes in the nation’s population – rose from 2.4 fatalities per 100,000 minor residents in 2019 to 3.5 per 100,000 two years later, a 46% increase.

Both the number and rate of children and teens killed by gunfire in 2021 were higher than at any point since at least 1999, the earliest year for which information about those younger than 18 is available in the CDC’s mortality database.

The rise in gun deaths among children and teens is part of a broader recent increase in firearm deaths among Americans overall. In 2021, there were 48,830 gun deaths among Americans of all ages – by far the highest yearly total on record and up 23% from the 39,707 recorded in 2019, before the pandemic.

The gun grabbers have been using that exact same lie since the early 90’s.

They deliberately conflate “ minors” with “children”. There are almost no children killed with guns, which has always been the case. Adolescent males, most of whom are of a single demographic start to experience rising homicide rates at ~13 years of age, but not getting really crazy until the late teens.

Subtract that single demo, and the US looks like every other advanced nation.

Wonder why the press hasn’t discovered this.

Okay, so mostly black on black violence, gangs, drug-related, and simply crime. As a white parent, I'm not so-immediately concerned, we're armed, plus we don't live in a crime infested neighborhood and my kids don't go to violent-prone schools. That said, this is terrible trend--maybe lack of accountability and discipline, radicalized government and schools, lack of parents, legalized drugs, the Internet (mabye even Tik-Tok encouragement), and who knows what else.

As a parent, I can watch, make sure I'm armed wherever I take my kids. But that is not enough. These criminals, some no better than wild animals, need to be incarcerated. And everyone that enabled this, need to be fired, prosecuted if possible, even jailed as well. Time for some serious law & order.

And it is not the guns. You could remove them and these animals would use baseball bats, knives, a steel pipe, whatever they could find. The end result is the same, violence.

And I bet if they broke this down by ZIP Codes or similar,the bulk of this would be isolated in a few communities around the country. Some honesty on that point would allow concerted action to fix those communities, let the others continue in peach.
