IN GENTLENESS THERE IS STRENGTH

The parents were devastated. Their young adopted daughter had died in an unusual accident. She suffocated when the drawstring on the hood of her jacket became caught in a playground slide. It was later learned their child was not the first to die this way. Design flaws in both the hood and the slide made this an accident waiting to happen.

Some people might have viewed this tragedy as an opportunity to sue the two major corporations for a lucrative settlement. The parents, however, refused. In an interview, the mother said she would have seen any remuneration as "blood money". She and her husband believed the leaders of the two companies never intended to harm her child or any other child. Instead of a lawsuit, the parents appealed to the clothing and slide manufacturers to correct the design flaws which had led to the death of their daughter. Both companies took immediate action. Today the parents are leaders in a campaign to promote child safety, and the companies involved have contributed substantially toward their cause.

It is not always wrong to sue. There are times when it is the prudent thing to do. It seems, however, that our society has become increasingly litigious, suing without discretion for profit and personal gain. In light of today’s litigious climate, one cannot help but be moved by the choice of these parents not to sue. Instead they chose a "higher ground", earning not only the willing cooperation of both companies, but strong allies in their campaign to promote child safety as well. We might say they took the "pure, peaceable and gentle way" described in the third chapter of James in the Christian scriptures (James 3:17) as opposed to the adversarial way offered them via the courts. An ancient Native American saying reads, "In gentleness there is great strength". Dag Hammarskjold, former Secretary General to the United Nations and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, put it this way, "Nothing is so strong as gentleness, and nothing so gentle as true strength". In the end, the gentle, peaceable way of these parents demonstrated the greater strength and wisdom.

WooHoo...that you got to get that ride...AND twice! What a deal! Bet you had fun showing the visitors all the new stuff!

Glad you had good weather, too! We will have a bit of a cool down tomorrow, but it will be in the 70s instead of the 60s. Not awful for April. I’m in no hurry for it to get hot.

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

It was a blast riding in that beastie. The first ride was more fun because he let ‘er rip and it was a long ride. Three of the vets with the biker group at the table with the cards to be picked up were also on that ride.

I definitely enjoyed taking some of the visitors through. I always enjoy meeting new people anyway and it’s fun to watch their faces as they see all the cool items we have in the museum.
SO nice to get back in the swing of things up there again.

We’ll have another roller coaster ride this week but not extreme. Mid 60s tomorrow, upper 60s Monday, a few days in the 70s and maybe 80, then rain next weekend which will cool us off again. Typical April weather.

Doesn’t sound like bad weather at all. At least you’ve had some rain this spring, so the farmers AND their crops aren’t stressed out.

The “beastie” sounds like great fun. Glad you got to go...and happy for you and all the visitors that the museum is open again. I hope it’s a very successful season.

No “me” time today or tomorrow...too much paperwork to handle to get ready for another pay week..

Lots of “calls” for duplicate W-2s...it’s panic time as taxes are supposed to be done by the 18th. I don’t send duplicates or returned originals without signed paperwork with address and request of what is needed. Folks...if you move you have to give us your new address, and NO we do not email any payroll information.

I did have one good outcome. He called the boss yesterday and wanted his previously requested. I mailed said request 4/6, but got another ready to mail today. Since he left a number, and his form requested email, which we don’t do and is shown in yellow highlight on the form, I called him. He said he got the one mailed 4/6 AND was getting ready to call. A happy ending!

I, of course, did not get my stuff to the tax man by 3/27, so I have an automatic extension. And he called me at work for a couple pieces of missing info. I was able to get one online when I got home, but the other is not to be found. So I’ve emailed them to find out why. *sigh* One of these years I will get all ready ahead of time.

Nope. Not too shabby. The only bad part is lows in the low 40s tomorrow and Monday nights. I have plants in the garage that would be much happier outside again but they can’t handle nights that cold.
And I’m tired of running the heat. I have a couple of windows open tonight but will close them before I go to bed.

It should be a good year at the museum. Word’s getting out more and more as time goes on. We’re still relatively new but now seem to be taking off. I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of new folks this year.

They’re STILL calling for duplicate W-2s? Are these the same people who already asked for them or new ones? Sheesh, what did they do with the ones they’d gotten? They must be as organized as Hubby was, which was not at all. I’m still looking for a few things, finding something by sheer luck every now and then.

Nice to have one happy ending today, at least.

Good luck getting that missing piece of info you need!

Tax time is such a pain!!!!!!!!

Right now, you’re warmer than we are...but all that will change soon. We’ll soon hit 90 and are in the 50s at night. Still feels cool on my feet right now, though.

Guess I’d better pack it in for the night. Ya know...the alarm awaits the early morning. See ya tomorrow.

I’m tempted to turn the AC on right now. LOL It’s not so much because it’s hot but it’s suddenly very muggy. the rain with the cold front hasn’t gotten here yet, and it might not since it’s falling apart. But a swath of rain is blowing up JUST east of here and that made the humidity jump. I’m sitting here doing online jigsaw puzzles and I’m sweating.
No AC though. I just aimed the floor fan more towards me and the breeze is cooling me off.

I’m not too far behind you on hitting the pillows. I went to bed at a decent hour last night but couldn’t fall asleep for a long time. I wanted to cry when the alarm went off this morning. LOL

I hope you have better luck falling asleep than I did so you don’t want to cry when your alarm goes off. :-)

Thank you, Kathy...and I deeply appreciated the banner in your earlier post.

Winding down now...Pascha Liturgy ended around 0200. Broke the fast with the first meat in seven weeks and first cheese in six.

Eighteen services started on Lazarus Saturday (day before Palm Sunday) and two more to go.
