Is this the right time for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to run for president ?
Potential candidates calculate odds, take polls, and count dollars to determine whether they should run. But it’s often not an easy decision; timing is the biggest conundrum in politics.
DeSantis once seemed to have a glide path to the Republican Party's presidential nomination. His strong popularity among Republicans nationwide, together with his big reelection win and former President Donald Trump’s flubbing the midterm elections, put him in the driver’s seat. But now that the nomination is hitched to the wild uncertainties of indictments, some DeSantis supporters are questioning whether their man should enter the fray. If DeSantis runs now, they fear, he risks a yearlong bloodbath with Trump. A fight from which he may never recover. Moreover, DeSantis may not be able to beat Trump, especially since the New York indictment has fired up the Republican base.
GOP pundits increasingly worry about DeSantis's readiness for the brutal scrutiny of a national campaign. There is also unease about his personal appeal. Polling, too, has set off alarms. Eight national surveys of Republican primary voters conducted during February had Trump leading DeSantis by an average of 15 points. Four polls taken after the New York indictment show Trump gaining strength, leading DeSantis by an average of nearly 34 points.

DeSantis needs to stay in Florida for now, where Trump is actually beating him in the polls.
DeSantis will be great for 28 but not before 24.
No. Trump is the presumptive nominee, his win was stolen in 2020 and anyone else running in the Republican primary is admitting they don’t believe 2020 was stolen.
Why not? If he and Trump will abide the 11th commandment, the winner will come out stronger and the loser will get lots of free publicity along with twice as many opportunities to talk about conservative principles. And… let’s not forget twice as many opportunities to bad mouth Democrats.
No, it will divide the party and we’ll end up with another four years of stinking’ Biden or some even more destructive Democrat from the Obama school.
He’d be a great president but he should finish his term as FL governor and run for POTUS in 2024.
I meant 2028.
no ... he never intended to ... this is a Baris/Ryan concoction ...
Love DeSantis, hate what Trump and many here are trying to do to him. But, NO, 2024 is for Trump. Everyone else should just clear the field like Bulls used to when Jordan was clearly going to take the play himself.

I have no interest in supporting this guy. I saw a number of “red flags” about him over the last few years, and they’ve only gotten bigger and brighter since he was re-elected last November.
I think he should run a campaign if he wants to, but should not go scorched earth. We will need SOMEbody to be ready if Trump (God forbid) has a health emergency, and he is better than Haley, Pence and Scott. Of course, Florida needs him more than the campaign does.
If fraud ruled the day in the 2020 election, why wouldn’t be the determinative factor in 2024?
Fraud will determine the general election winner, just it has in the last two eletions. How can it be otherwise since it worked and no one has done a damn thing to stop it.

Mike Lindell has been trying very hard. He even got two counties to switch to paper ballots and says we need to go to our own county officials and say we want to get rid of the machines. We can’t always wait for someone else to save us.
Before Trump’s truth saying he could still have a chance if he goes another year I was thinking opposite. If he doesn’t get the nomination this year he’s done regardless because now Trump’s hard-core base sees him as public enemy number one. Trump could obviously softened that if he chooses to (see Ted Cruz). I wouldn’t support him regardless, he’s shown who he is and I think the party should be better.
If he runs, it’s pure selfish political ambition, a la swamp.
It’s a weasel move, considering that he’s only where he is because of President Trump. It’s also VERY oblivious of the MAGA base - throwing it into such chaos is shameful.
He’s a young man and should show President Trump the respect he deserves by waiting. But I guess that doesn’t sit well with the Bushes, Paul Ryan, Karl Rove, McConnell et al.
He has that freedom, but it will destroy him…
I voted for Ron the past 3 times he ran for
state office. I think Only Trump can dig
us out of the Biden Abyss, so I don’t want
a primary fight splitting party unity.
DeSantis has not kept his promise to get us
Canadian Pharm drugs for what they pay in Canada
imported here, Trump kept his promises and then
some. Call DeSantis’ office and nobody can
tell you why after a full term in office what
became of that unkept promise.
Trump is going to be our nominee, Dems can
indict him again and again it just makes him
stronger.
If DeSantis shows up at the July debates, I and
my wife will never vote for him again, he would
prove disloyal since he owes his 3 wins to
Trump endorsements and campaigning for him in all
3 races.
Trump is Maga and we love him for putting our
country first. DeSantis has proven he is a GOPE
tool, just look at his donors.
“I saw a number of “red flags” about him over the last few years, and they’ve only gotten bigger and brighter since he was re-elected last November.”
Namely?
Ron DeSantis has a book out.
You can read it and better judge his merits.
I think Ron DeSantis and Kristi Noem are our best hopes.
I want a strong energy/ Military President.
Trump has more pluses than anyone, but he has substantial negatives, such as having been made a demon by Democrats and the media, Trump’s failure to appoint people fully willing to protect middle class Americans, Trump’s tendency to fight with Democratic attack ‘dogs’, and a willingness to go along with excessive federal spending.
