One warm afternoon in May, Dwight Jackson was getting dressed for a visit to his favorite cigar lounge. He slipped his holstered SIG Sauer P320 pistol onto his belt, put on a button-down shirt and leaned across his bed for his wallet. Suddenly, he said, the gun fired, sending a bullet tearing through his right buttock and into his left ankle.
"I heard 'bang!'" said Jackson, 47, a locomotive engineer who lives in Locust Grove, Ga. "I looked down and saw blood."
His wife heard the shot from down the hall and screamed. She called an ambulance while Jackson hobbled toward the front door, painting a trail of blood over the hardwood floors.
The P320 is one of the nation's most popular handguns. A variant of the weapon is the standard-issue sidearm for every branch of the U.S. military. Since its introduction to the commercial market in 2014, manufacturer SIG Sauer has sold the P320 to hundreds of thousands of civilians, and the gun has been used by officers at more than a thousand law enforcement agencies across the nation, court records show.
It has also gruesomely injured scores of people who say the gun has a potentially deadly defect.
More than 100 people allege that their P320 pistols discharged when they did not pull the trigger, an eight-month investigation by The Washington Post and The Trace has found. At least 80 people were wounded in the shootings, which date to 2016.

This is what I’m thinking. A number of police officers have shot themselves in the arse while attempting to re-holster Glocks and other pistols with trigger mounted safety levers. Not a SIG specific thing at all.

Damn I thought it was. Volvos.
A lot of guns will take a pot shot at their owner if the jughead tries to clean the gun without unloading it first.
We had one happen at the police range here a couple of months ago.
I own a P320 with a 3rd party flat face trigger. The 3rd party supplier informed me that that flat face trigger did not have the extra mass found in the curved face version and would not require replacement with a lighter, safer version.
My P238 hasn’t shot me yet. But the day’s young
Only the military version has a manual thumb safety. People not familiar with pistols should use manual safeties.
Hey, at least it was his butt and not something else. Right about now I bet he’s relieved it wasn’t appendix carry...

Article said he holstered the weapon then tucked his shirt in. Probably tucked the shirt into the trigger guard. When he bent over the bed the shirt tugged on the trigger, perforating his dumb ass,
LOL! And to think I was completely sober when I typed that.
I have been concerned about all of this gun violence and decided action must be taken. I assembled my guns around and had a stern talk to them about being violent. It was a consensus that they were not assault weapons but they assured me they were only defense weapons. I took them at their word and let them go. I only hope other gun owners will take similar actions to end gun violence.
“But some of these claims are that it fired while holstered, which is a very different thing.”
And...people lie! All the time. Particularly when embarrassed or in search of money. And when it is both?
Revolvers are inherently dangerous. If you file too much on the sear they can go fully auto. The carnage is too much to risk.
And you never want to add a bump stock to a revolver. That’s like throwing gasoline on a fire.
This reminds me for some reason when I visited the haunted mansion (Collinwood Mansion) that I carried with me a ghost gun (because you can never be too sure).
That is what I was going to ask.
There are videos on YouTube of ‘reputable’ gun vloggers demonstrating that the P320 can be made to fire by striking it on the rear of the slide.
DoD knew the P320 has this problem before replacing the Beretta with them.
People do lie, but these reports have been coming in for years, since the first day that the P320 was on the market.
And the P320 did have drop problems.
And IIRC the P320 was Sig Sauer’s first try at a striker-fired pistol.
Finally the liberal radicals have got their man, a gun that thinks for itself! what they have been hoping for all along. Now anyone behind this fire arm or any other is innocent only if you are in a protected class against the white Christian domestic terrorists
