Crime turned Portland into a ‘hollowed out shell.’ Its neighbors are trying to keep it from happening to them. ( Oregon )

Counties near Portland aren't experiencing the same crime surge — here's what leaders say has worked

...

PORTLAND, Ore. – Ben West remembers when Portland was a funky, artsy "crown jewel of the West Coast" with a great food scene.

"Portland is a hollowed out shell of what it used to be," said West, a Clackamas County commissioner. "Businesses are fleeing and people are leaving for greener pastures."

...

Public safety officials across Oregon have complained of rising crime in their communities, but, according to police data, crime is spiking much more dramatically in Portland than the statewide average.

"Each area has different challenges, but what we're seeing in the metro area is absolutely rising crime," Washington County District Attorney Kevin Barton told Fox News.

The Portland metro area is made of three counties: Multnomah County, which encompasses most of Portland; as well as Washington and Clackamas counties.

"The increases that we're seeing are nothing like the increases that we're seeing in our neighbors," Barton said. "Public safety is failing in Multnomah County."

...

Shocking and often gruesome headlines have become commonplace in the state's most populous county.

...

What's happening is with our de-carceration and elimination of bail culture, we've got all these people running around," said Kristin Olson, a trial attorney and host of the Rational in Portland podcast. "And it's really scary because we also have this anti-police culture."

“Its neighbors are trying to keep it from happening to them”

How? Have they stopped voting Democrat?

...crime is spiking much more dramatically in Portland than the statewide average.

I'll just bet; with a little bit of research; one would find that half of Oregon cities are above the statewide average for crime.

There’s definitely some kind of momentum behind these evil men and women to undermine us at every turn.

One would hope that soon the good folks of the Portland area come to the realization that the most effective solution to their crime problem is simple - perp, tree, rope - applied at the scene of the crime.

Had a good Police Chief, won over the tired and scared victim community, re-enabled the force to go after violent criminals, took Race out of the decision making.

Then chief Craig was persuaded to run for governor.

Some polls showed 40% lead in primary, Whitler and her reset-squad would have lost in a landslide. So he was promptly set up by Rinos and Dem operatives (with four other candidates) to be disqualified. Fully cancelled now. {Crickets}

“There’s no way I was going. Two years from now its supposed to be in New Orleans, so maybe then.”

Thats debatable too!

Florida’s nice this time of year. Panhandle, or the redneck rivera in Mississippi has amenities and casinos, or Branson.

Back in the 70s I was cooking at Cape Disappointment CG station before I exited. Dated a Nurse from the local hospital and she knew the owner of a nice little restaurant just across the Columbia. They had an open mic night and she coaxed me into doing a few. It was banjo, folk tunes and it went over well enough. Beautiful area, almost stayed. Almost 70 now... I can’t imagine being stuck in an area that has completely gone to hell in a handbasket with few choices to skedaddle.

I imagine the long-term taxpayers in that area are probably really pissed off at the government administrations that have gone before them and completely wasted their tax dollars on BS, only to end up with these safety concerns.

I don’t think Portland has a future.

Portland Oregon is done. The port of Portland shut down in 2015 because the current generation of ships couldn't fit down the 100 miles of river from Pacific Ocean to the port.

Shocking and tragic.

I lived and worked in downtown Portland for 10 years, beginning in the early 1990s.

The most pleasant 10 years of my adult life.

Breaks my heart to read about this.

During the George Floyd riots, someone threw a Molotov cocktail into the Starbucks on the first floor of my former apartment building.

Old fashioned building, every floor was poured concrete, so damage was contained to that one area.

Regardless, what kind of brainless people try to burn down a classic apartment building because George Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose during Police custody?

The video suggests Multnomah County is the major reason for the overall crime problem in the Portland area, and that county’s DA refused to be interviewed - anybody know if he’s a Soros stooge?

“crime is spiking much more dramatically in Portland than the statewide average.”

Crime is not prosecuted in Portland. Portland invited illegals to live nearly free. Portland does nothing about open air drug markets and drug use. Portland allows criminal vagrancy.
Portland has been in bed with antifa terrorists since the 1990s. AND Portland has the most “diverse” neighborhood in the state where there were so many shooting and arrests of “diverse” peoples the county sheriff made a policy to NOT publish mugshots.
