Maryland governor unveils plan to phase out new gas-powered cars

Maryland will become the latest state to adopt the clean-car rules that originated in California, phasing out new gas-powered car sales by 2035, Gov. Wes Moore (D) announced Monday.

The Advanced Clean Cars II rule, first implemented in California in 2022 under a provision of the Clean Air Act, allows states to impose stricter car standards than their federal counterparts. The standards are not retroactive to existing cars or to used car sales.

“Today, we’re talking about a major transformation that is going to define this administration—and that’s how we turn Maryland from a state powered by oil and gas to a state powered by clean energy,” Moore said in a statement. “I am confident that the state of Maryland can and will lead the clean energy revolution.”

> They’ll never rebuild the Power Grid to handle all the EVs they want to sell, or the infrastructure to service them. <

Right. The math just doesn’t work. That will leave our woke, green leaders with only two options.

A. Back off on the who EV push, and recognize the value of ICE cars.
B. Slowly introduce some sort of electric rationing scheme. You’ll get only so many watts per week, and that’s it.

Given that most of our leaders are both stupid and kinda fascist, I’m thinking they’ll at least try option B.

What are high rollers like Hogan going to do about their 250 hp. diesel engine in their yachts? They guzzle 20 gallons or more of fuel per hour. The battery pack for an equivalent electrical powered engine will take a battery pack the size the the Washington Monument. Cheapskates like Swiftboat Rear Admiral John F’ing Kerry has a $7 million dollar yacht which he parks in Rhode Island instead of cash strapped Ma. to avoid $500,000 tax on it and he doesn’t have to pay $70,000 yearly property tax on it. Heard it was up for sale for $4 million. These high rollers are going to have to get rid of these smoking polluting diesels.

It is not in fact a “plan” (as in figuring out from an engineering and economic perspective how to accomplish it), merely set of rules amounting to a dictatorial mandate.

It will make rewards for things that meet the mandate but it will in fact NOT accomplish its goals. They know that. It is in fact just another means of channeling funds politically and in return being rewarded with political donations from the recipients of the governments rewards.

They’re not banning ICE cars, per se, yet. Just planning to ban their sales in the state. people can drive to Virginia or Pennsylvania or Delaware and buy there instead. Then dealerships in Maryland will go out of business.

Well, you Green Clowns better start building a bunch of power plants because the current grid isn’t going to handle it. And solar and wind aren’t going to cut it because there are windless days and sometimes it get dark at night.

That 2035 figure will be rolled back to 2095 by the time they are done.

This 2035 nonsense is so idiotic it’s insulting.

Nobody believes it can be done.

When they aren’t able to get to work because of cold weather and no electricity then we will be free of their stupidity for those days, weeks, months............

No problem, they'll just work from home like they've been doing for the last three years.

You might ask where all that additional electric power will be coming from. I’m not sure, but I think it has something to do with magic unicorns.

Gas stations will convert to charging stations using diesel generators. Those underground tanks can hold a lot of diesel.

Will we have a patchwork quilt map of states,”

no the rat states will get away with bullying the entre country because the car makers will not make cars they cannot sell in half of the states. They will only make EV’s which they can sell in every state.

This is what 109,000 horsepower looks like — meet the biggest and most powerful engine in the world

Looks like the most powerful electric motor, used by the US Navy, puts out about 50,000 horses.
