Maryland governor unveils plan to phase out new gas-powered cars

Maryland will become the latest state to adopt the clean-car rules that originated in California, phasing out new gas-powered car sales by 2035, Gov. Wes Moore (D) announced Monday.

The Advanced Clean Cars II rule, first implemented in California in 2022 under a provision of the Clean Air Act, allows states to impose stricter car standards than their federal counterparts. The standards are not retroactive to existing cars or to used car sales.

“Today, we’re talking about a major transformation that is going to define this administration—and that’s how we turn Maryland from a state powered by oil and gas to a state powered by clean energy,” Moore said in a statement. “I am confident that the state of Maryland can and will lead the clean energy revolution.”

I still believe that inflation, supply-chain reality, and physics will outrace and crash leftist-fascist green dreams before they are close to implementing then.

We will all suffer the consequences.

My wife and I are planning a long distance trip. We have traveled not much past few years. How difficult is it to reserve an ICE car. I do not wish to be in a golf cart.

It takes incredible amounts of money and promises of special consideration to put words to paper calling for something so stupid.

Yep. And it would be easy for the government to get rid of gas stations. Just put an ever-increasing “harm to the environment” tax on them. Plus give a tax incentive to those that convert over to electric charging stations.

You might ask where all that additional electric power will be coming from. I’m not sure, but I think it has something to do with magic unicorns.

Thanks, Wes Mooron, for adding to CA’s market share for EVs, thus helping prompt car companies to switch entirely to EVs for the US market.

By 2035, new governments, new governors, new state senates/houses, will have been elected, so...

no doubt, things will change, and the insanity of decisions made in 2022/2023, will have become evident, and changes to decisions made before 2035, will overcome the insane decisions made out of pure agenda and not made prudently.

Same for California and any other state that wishes to commit economic suicide.

The not-so-hidden idea is for these commie blue states to force such a huge market share for EVs, that car companies will find it unfeasible to produce ICE vehicles for the US market. So California, Maryland, Virginia (!), etc. will ultimately force new car buyers in Florida and Texas to buy EVs, regardless of their safety record or their effect on the power grid.

You just gave me an idea. I’m going to start a company that makes realistic EV stickers you can put on an ICE car. Betcha a dollar they’d fool most liberals.

Maybe something like this:

“and that’s how we turn Maryland from a state powered by oil and gas to a state powered by clean energy,”

And where is all of this ‘clean energy’ going to come from, Governor? Right now, according to Google, a whopping 11% of the state’s energy comes from ‘renewable sources’.

EVs are a 7-10yr “fad”.

By then, world mfgrs will have TRILLIONS in unsold inventory, empty plants and storage yards full of unused parts.

They’ll never rebuild the Power Grid to handle all the EVs they want to sell, or the infrastructure to service them.

They’ll lose it all, as ICE vehicles prevail.

Just as in 1895-1915, when EVs were eclipsed by Steamers and ICE vehicles, EVs quietly disappeared.

What worries me is how long it will take to rebuild all the gas stations, refineries, drilling companies, which the eco-wackos have run out-of-business.
