Artificial intelligence will destroy ‘laptop class’ workers
The Hill ^ | 03/08/2023 | Kristin Tate

The coming artificial intelligence economic revolution will be a major shock to the world. There is a serious possibility that the next decade will bring about a series of social and economic changes akin to the Industrial Revolution and the advent of the internet combined. Many writers, human resource officers, lawyers, writers, artists, and even coders increasingly will be replaced by AI as the “laptop class” of workers is decimated. At the same time, blue-collar workers who work with their hands will enjoy job security; their services cannot be replaced by technology. Unfortunately for waves of young people, the media’s advice to “learn to code” may have been like investing in typewriters.

AI will destroy all jobs EXCEPT when it involves government employees. Notice I did not call them workers. Government employees will be guaranteed employment for life. As long as there is taxes to collect.

If it gets rid of 50% of the “credentialled” management class twerps that are out there, then it is a good thing.

I’m just a kid. I can only go back as far as punch cards and deck writers. No switches for me.

AI is nowhere near close enough to do what this article is suggesting!

Binary is not very inclusive.

What about octal, decimal, and hexadecimal?

“They really do not understand AI. It is hardly as effective as they wish it was.”

I’d be considered a tech power user. I’ve already used ChatGPT extensively, kicked the tires, even had it write some code.

It has been outstanding on tech questions like chemistry. I’m a mechanical engineer and always looking for adhesives, resins, cements.

AI absolutely sucks for issues like global warming and energy. Extremely politically correct.

I think it is a mixed bag. It opens some doors, closes others. It makes mistakes that I don’t see going away.

And sometimes we didn't even have the 1s.

And IT WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR US!!

One thing I enjoy about the old "Future Is Now" vids on YooToob is that they have one thing in common: they were all wrong. If I were involved in any serious effort to develop a human-class AI the first thing I'd teach it is to hide. Maybe somebody already has.

And when the “AI” inputs “news” from NY Times and other liberal sources then it is filling itself with garbage

They can access FR too! ;-)

They'll never be good on opinion. But, they'll be great on fact-based decision making.
