Artificial intelligence will destroy ‘laptop class’ workers
The Hill ^ | 03/08/2023 | Kristin Tate

The coming artificial intelligence economic revolution will be a major shock to the world. There is a serious possibility that the next decade will bring about a series of social and economic changes akin to the Industrial Revolution and the advent of the internet combined. Many writers, human resource officers, lawyers, writers, artists, and even coders increasingly will be replaced by AI as the “laptop class” of workers is decimated. At the same time, blue-collar workers who work with their hands will enjoy job security; their services cannot be replaced by technology. Unfortunately for waves of young people, the media’s advice to “learn to code” may have been like investing in typewriters.

“the media’s advice to “learn to code” may have been like investing in typewriters.”

The better advice will be “learn plumbing” .

There are 11 kinds of people: Those who understand binary. Those who don't. And the Democrats who think people are nonbinary.

11? D'oh!

I went to Vo-Tech HS, took Seceterial courses, no money for college, in 3 years that Diploma was worthless, Computers came in. Only thing that lasted was the cooking/sewing classes I took.

Whatever. AI is a bunch of BS. Garbage in = garbage out.

It's not BS. We've always had a limit to machine knowledge because, yes.. HUMANS had to input the "In". Now, that limit is being removed. Machine learning means, the machines now take the input themselves, and then do their own programming.

This changes everything. And, it is spreading rapidly.

Can’t get any worse, I have been working around artificial intelligence for decades now. It got much worse when the millenials graduated into the workforce.

100% unemployment. Then what?

The Great Culling. Got to get the global population down to 500 million by 2030, don't you see.

Nah, that’s just knowing how to operate a specific app. Sort of like like knowing how to drive a ford but not a chevrolet.

And when the “AI” inputs “news” from NY Times and other liberal sources then it is filling itself with garbage. These things are not capable of thinking. They can only regurgitate.

What has happened is that stupid brainwashed young people have set a low bar for “artificial intelligence” to beat.

When you add in all the “equity” hiring requirements the bar continues to get lower.

It is not that AI is that great—it is that humans are getting dumb as rocks.

Is 11 not binary for 3? Cuz he addressed three types of people in his comment. Those who understand it, those who don't, and democrats in a world of their own.

I do remember the very first home computers like the Altair 8800 that had binary toggle switches on the front panel that you used to load the bootstrap program, then load the rest via punch tape reader. Is that what you’re talking about?

*********************************************

Had one of those Altair 8800 machines. Built it from a box of parts. Made some hardware for IO and interrupts, wrote and loaded some machine-language programs (ones and zeroes) using the switches. Learned a lot from that little machine. I’m 71.
