Former President Donald Trump revealed Saturday that he plans to shut down the Department of Education if he retakes the White House in 2024.
Axing the Department of Education is part of an education platform Mr. Trump will announce on March 13, he told reporters at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
“It’s time,” Mr. Trump said. “Close it up. When you look at the list of countries, we’re always at the bottom [on education]. We spend more money per pupil and we’re always at the bottom of a list of 40 countries. And we should close it up and let local areas, and frankly, states, handle education.”
Republicans have long been at odds with the Department of Education since President Carter created a cabinet-level education secretary. His successor, President Reagan, advocated for eliminating the department two years after its creation.

Go Donald!
He can’t do it. It would take an Act of Congress for such a thing to happen. You think the Dems in the Senate would go along with that plan?
Rep. Thomas Massie has a bill to terminate it.
Go Massie!
2024 the GOP should get the senate back, but the question then turns to if enough GOP senators are actually conservatives.
He’ll be better prepared this time since he has experience under his belt and knows how treacherous politics and politicians are. He knows who the corrupt ones are. He’s loaded for bear, as we say around here. 😁
Trump said “shut down”
He can leave it in place while effectively eliminating all activity doing harm
A President should just say it’s unconstitutional and not fund it.
If Ron Paul were President, I’m sure he would just not give it money.
Abolish the Dept of Education, the FIB, the National Endowment for the Humanities, NPR and lots of other federal leeches and corrupt deep state hacks.
Then apply a chainsaw to the senior ranks of the military. All the Wokeratti need to go.
Yes. This is why I think Trump 2.0 might be very different for all those going on about his bad hires and policies previously.
I like what I see.
Maybe..that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t propose it.
sure he will - he will it eliminate just like he did when he was actually in office.
Empty campaign promises that he will never actually try to implement, even if he is re-elected.
Abolishing the DOE(ducation) will be a WINNING policy position. Even in blue places parents are sick of the perversion of education. Ref: most recent VA governor’s race.
I predict Trump’s proposal will get widespread press and debate — sunlight is a great disinfectant.
Will be interesting to see what President Trump’s challengers have to say about the topic. For a candidate that claims to be conservative, defending the DOE(ducation) will be suicide.
While we’re at it, maybe we should also abolish the DOE(nergy)? Or explicitly change its name and mission to the DOAKNW (Department of Ass-Kickin’ Nuclear Weapons).
Trump is not a conventional politician.
I trust this is more than an empty promise
Guess you’ll be voting for Biden again?
Get rid of the entire government and start over.
That’s what I see. He trusted too many the first time around, until they stabbed him in the back. He has made a list and they will pay the second time around.
Please!!!!
>>Guess you’ll be voting for Biden again?
Stupid comment of the day alert.
Someone accurately pointing out a president doesn’t have the authority to do something, doesn’t make them a democrat - unless you also believe that when Nancy Pelosi said Biden doesn’t have the authority to cancel student loans that she was secretly a Trump voter.
So I guess both of you will be voting for Biden again? (Sorry, didn’t mean to neglect you.)
Then the next democrat will ramp it back up...probably worse.
This should never have been implemented. The detractors (rightfully) said it would become the ‘ministry of propaganda’, and once again we were proved correct.
The conservatives ALWAYS are proven correct.
Look at what they said about the income tax. When first implemented it was something like 1/2 of one percent on people earning over a million dollars per year. Which was about a couple dozen people back in the early 1900’s.
