DeSantis Ends Disney, the 'Corporate Kingdom'

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has ended Disney's corporate and tax advantages over other Florida theme parks.

In a scheduled press conference at a local fire department in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Gov. DeSantis signed a measure— CS/HB 9B – Reedy Creek Improvement District, Orange and Osceola Counties— that would even the playing field for other amusement parks like Sea World and Universal Studios.

DeSantis downplayed the 2022 political brawl he had with Disney over the Parental Rights in Education law, as just a “little bit of a tussle.”

“Disney came out against something that was really just about protecting young kids and making sure that students are able to go to school learning to read, write, add and subtract and not having a teacher tell them that they could change their gender,” said Gov. DeSantis. “I think most parents agree with that but you know that was only a mild annoyance I think that what we came to realize after that dust settled on that was you clearly had a movement within the corporation itself.

DeSantis continued.

“I'm a dad 6, 4, and two and my wife and I know parents throughout Florida we want our kids to be kids we want them to be able to enjoy entertainment school without having an agenda imposed upon them,” added DeSantis.

DeSantis made the case for transparency and fairness, citing that for far too long, Disney was given preferential and unfair treatment over other theme parks.

“How do you give one theme park its own government and then treat all the other theme parks differently,” asked DeSantis, adding, “So we believe that that was not good policy…now we're basically Disney's going to be treated like SeaWorld is treated or like any of these others and that's really the fair thing to do.”

In addition, DeSantis smacked down the narrative that Floridians would see their tax bills rise as a result of his signing the bill into law, adding that Disney would instead be paying “it’s fair share of taxes.”

“Disney really got a free ride on that now they can be taxed for that so if anything it's going to reduce the tax burden of people in Central Florida.”—Gov. Ron DeSantis

In his soon-to-be-release book, DeSantis stated that he had a private conversation with then-Disney CEO Bob Chapek, where the former Disney executive divulged that he all but caved to being “pressured” to change Disney’s social

Shortly before he signed the bill into law, DeSantis asked attended to look at their watches and take note at what time “the corporate kingdom came to an end.”

This is action, not words.

The Disney perverts earned it.

You get a reflection of the populace. Ga is 31% black and 95+% of them are completely brainwashed into the Democrat party. So the Democrats start with 30% advantage in most elections. Then there are the displaced yankees who bring their New York values (and NJ, MA, CT, etc) with them. Then you have the home grown soccer moms who never had much brainpower to begin with and who believe whatever they hear in the MSM, we’re luck to not be worse.

Yes, action - not mere words.

Talk is cheap, that why talk is the currency of politics.

I caught Ron DeSantis (RDS) on Mark Levin last evening; and, I was more than impressed. Genuine (he actually WROTE his own book!), does not exaggerate, and tells his story through the lens of a concerned citizen (he volunteered for the Navy in order to contribute to our Country following 9/11 attacks) and a family man (wife and kids are what he puts first.) He also said that he feel that he represents all Floridians, not just the ones who voted for him...which of course goes to character.

I look forward to reading his book, which I have reserved on Kindle and is promised to be released tomorrow, 2/28.

If I like it, and this appears to be the likely case, I'll buy several hard copies for gifts.

Doing the right thing. Repeatedly.

Let’s see more in leadership roles follow the example DeSantis has set.

This is one of those things that conservatives should be doing more of instead of claiming that these tax loopholes are somehow worth preserving because of some long since passed value to society.

For example: How much did Joel Osteen pay in taxes last year? How much money did Elvis make on songs he hasn’t sung in nearly fifty years?

“The Disney perverts earned it.“

It’s amazing how badly Disney miscalculated. They thought they could stick their nose into the Florida legislative realm and the Governor would just fold like every other GOP Governor has. They could not have been more wrong.

Disney kept more than they lost. The only real sore spot for Disney I can see is the state legislature choosing the board.

Big businesses shouldn’t have gotten such inequality in the first place.

The $1.6 billion stadium handout in Buffalo, NY is disgusting.

Actually, the title is misleading. DeSantis didn’t end Disney corporate Kingdom. The Florida legislature did. DeSantis just signed the bill they wrote into law.

Disney would instead be paying “it’s fair share of taxes.”

Sounds like something out of the liberal playbook.
