Once again Putin reveals that the true cause of the war is his denial of Ukrainian national identity as a separate people and his goal is to reunify all the “historical Russians.” His complaint against NATO and the West isn’t about any fear that they will invade the Russian Federation, but that they stand in the way of his reunification of “historical Russia.”

“Putin Says West Aiming to ‘Tear Apart’ Russia”

He’s just stating what’s already being stated in Western publications.

The difference is, due to the continued Ukraine escalation, and statements from Western leaders, the Russian public now believes him.

People can complain about Putin but I’ve heard talking head types over here saying they want to split Russia up into smaller countries. I doubt Putin isn’t unaware of western “think tanks” proposing such things

Democrats want to destroy Russia because it opposes the homosexual agenda of grooming children. That’s an unforgivable sin to the Left.

I have spent many a conversation trying to explain that ‘unification’ idea to others.

Most don’t get it.

Putin stands up to Biden more than anyone else in the world today.

When will folks here in the USA say “enough of this crap” it’s our country and Biden uses it for a urinal and the urinal block is the Constitution of the United States?

There was a free and fair election in the Ukrainian SSR in 1991 in which a majority of the people in every single region of the country - including Crimea, Luhansk, and Donestsk - voted for Ukrainian independence. That includes the part of the country in which ethnic Russians were the majority.

There were no claims that the voting was unfair, and the newly-independent Ukraine was congratulated and recognized - within those same borders - by both Yeltsin, the head of the RSSR, and by Gorbachev of the USSR.

The inviolability of Ukraine's independence and within those same borders was expressly recognized by Russia again in the 1994 Budapest Memorandum.

Basically Putin wants to unwind his own country's prior legal actions and get a do-over so he can conquer a neighboring country. That's about as illegitimate as it gets.

Putin is thinking Catherine the Great, who was German by the way, conquered Ukraine; so, Ukraine is part of Russia.

In such manner, Argentina says the Pope drew a line and the Falkland Islands were on our side of that line.

This kind of thinking isn’t American. Americans think government rests on the consent of the governed.

To be sure, this consent of the governed thing is tricky. You can never get unanimity. And, each person being a government by himself doesn’t work. So, as a practical matter, the consent of the governed involves identifying groups of people and the places they are associated with. There’s room for disagreement about these things. But not with Putin.

We are now in a war in which Ukraine is proving on the battlefield that it doesn’t want to be part of Russia. Putin thinks this is because the Ukrainians have been brainwashed by the Nazi west. Therefore, the people of Ukraine have no say in the matter.

I submit that this is not Russia against Ukraine, it’s Russia against NATO. It always has been. A proxy war of superpowers, at our expense.

Let’s send more money, and weapons to Ukraine, so Democrats, and Republicans can launder more money, and Zelenskyy and his buddies can sell all those missiles on the black market. There really isn’t any need to monitor all this cash and military paraphernalia to see where it actually goes. We can trust them all. Their word is gold.
