Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger Will Propose Ranked Choice Voting to State Legislature
Conservative Treehouse ^ | 12Dec | Sundance

CTH took considerable flak for reporting on the uniparty system of Georgia politics prior to the 2020 midterms. With the election in the rearview mirror, the Georgia Secretary of State is now proposing to permanently codify Democrat control of the state.

(Via Reason) […] Speaking to The New York Times last week, Raffensperger said he would petition the state legislature with three separate proposals. One would force large counties to open more locations for voting early. Another would lower the vote total needed to avoid a runoff from 50 percent to 45.

The third proposal is the most consequential, and the most interesting. Raffensperger will also state lawmakers to consider switching to a ranked choice ballot for future elections.

Yes, Yes, and Yes....

Best way to stump a libertarian, the folks who so no need for laws and live and let live as long as I’m not bothering you, IMHO.

What happens when 1 libertarian invades the privacy or encroaches on his libertarian next door neighbor? Who decides who is right or wrong?

Thanks for calling attention to the article; I confess that I am the author, and I have made numerous posts on FR since much earlier this year trying to inform people about what was going to happen in Alaska solely due to this new scheme for counting votes.

Perhaps that attempt at education was only relevant at the time to those who live in Alaska, but it was always obvious that liberals would try to expand this everywhere — it was part of the Democrats’ evil “H.R. 1” in the last Congress, which would have attempted to take Rigged Choice Voting nationwide by federal law.

That didn’t work, so now they have to do it one state at a time. And so they are, beginning of course with marginal states like Georgia or solidly Republican states like Utah where they have everything to gain and nothing to lose. They can count on RINO support across the board.

As far as Georgia, wouldn’t it be fabulous for RINOs to force the hated Marjorie Taylor Greene into a 4-way Rigged Choice Voting race with a RINO and a Democrat on the ballot? That would end her congressional career with about 90% certainty.

“I still believe that Kemp is the lessor of the two evils.”

“I voted for Richard M. Nixon in ‘72 and am still proud I did, considering the opposition he ran against.”

My sentiments, exactly. There is no way I wanted McGovern to be President or Abrams to be Governor.

Marjorie Taylor Greene into a 4-way Rigged Choice Voting race with a RINO and a Democrat on the ballot? That would end her congressional career with about 90% certainty.

Add to that, ZERO scrutiny or inspection of any mail in ballots, it’s game over. There is absolutely no way of determining if the mail in ballots for Warnock are legitimate without an inspection. Not gonna happen in Georgia with the current SOS. No telling how many fraudulent ballots he got.

Are there people on here or anywhere, that tout Georgia’s new election law as being great, think that any of the Blue Counties are playing by the rules? Does anyone think that Fulton, Dekalb, Clayton and. Gwinnett are going to follow any rules? That’s laughable.

Even if they got caught, the answer would be….My bad, you’re a racist.

And nothing would happen.

I’m hoping that whoever posted that this crap is DOA in the state legislature is correct.

But even if that is correct, what’s to stop the RINOs from putting it on the ballot and having clueless voters — including clueless conservative voters — somehow believing that this is a good thing and voting it into law?

Not to disparage the good people of the state, but Georgia did just get done electing a hate-filled racist preacher to the Senate for the second time in less than 2 years. So why wouldn’t Georgia cheerfully vote for something as stupid and evil as Rigged Choice Voting? All it takes is 50% of the vote, plus one, and we’ve seen that Democrats have no trouble achieving that figure whenever they desperately need to do so.

Given the quality of certain “Republican” statewide officials like Raffensperger and the late Geoff Duncan, it’s not hard to see why Democrats didn’t feel the need to fraud up those races too much. Useful idiots can be very useful indeed.

Man you are on fire today. S'MORES!

FL also banned RCV. That is what the GA legislature should send to Goobernor Kampf's table for signing.

Alaska has ranked choice voting.

Total Alaska population is less than 750,000.

THEY took over 3 weeks to count votes.

With a MUCH HIGHER voting population-—Georgia counting could take 4 months or more.

With her as Governor she has solid opposition from the legislature. She wouldn’t be able to enact any kind of anti-gun stuff without it. She wouldn’t be able to do anything like raising taxes without it.

Kemp as Governor. That same legislature is going to roll over for him. Roll over on things that matter. They dangle the low hanging fruit, guns and taxes(even though they’re going up), and distract everyone while they give away the state.

If you’re from Georgia, are you familiar with the Rowen Project?

I have already stated that Republicans in Georgia are retread Democrats.   They would not stop Stacey Abrams in the least, if she had the catbird seat under the Gold Dome.

And no, I have never heard of the Rowen Project?   But with a quick check it looks like Somebody wants to recreate a "Research Triangle Park" in Gwinnett County.

Living in self-satisficed Cobb County for forty years, I don't pay much attention to Gwinnett County.   I will say that it seems like a bad time to make pipe dreams.

Yes a research center. Starting out with around 18,000 jobs, so they say.

But…..and if you couldn’t tell by my tone what enrages me.

1. Whole deal done in complete secrecy.

2. Former Gwinnett Cty chairperson, who didn’t run for re-election after pushing this thing thru stated…..she was elected to make decisions for her constituents. Not keep them informed and get a consensus

3. An interview conducted with “a person familiar with the deal” reveals that “the deal was done in secret so the developer could get the land cheaper”. So, Gwinnett Cty government folks conspire with developer to rip-off Gwinnett land owners.

It gets better…..they’re saying that the project could add 100k people to the area. Have you ever driven up and down 316 in your 40yrs of being in Cobb. You can barely get up and down it now.

Sadly, two of the most Conservative places in the country, Cobb and Gwinnett, are now solid Blue. Shameful.

“FL also banned RCV. That is what the GA legislature should send to Goobernor Kampf’s table for signing.”

RCV was discussed in 2021 before the Georgia legislature enacted various election reforms. There was no support for it then among prominent Republicans in the legislature and, from what I have read, no support for it now by members who control the relevant committees.

I was already living in Cobb County just after I separated out of the USAF when this happened..
Lawrence Patton McDonald (April 1, 1935 – September 1, 1983) was an American politician and a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Georgia's 7th congressional district as a Democrat from 1975 until he was killed while a passenger on board Korean Air Lines Flight 007 when it was shot down by Soviet interceptors.[1]

McDonald maintained one of the most conservative voting records in Congress and crusaded against communism. He became chairman of the John Birch Society in 1983, months before his death. He was remembered as a martyr by American conservatives.[2][3]

Here in Georgia we had Conservative Democrats before Republicans were allowed to exist here.

I don't remember being on Highway 316, but I may have and didn't have reason to remember it.   I know what you mean about things done in secret with political collusion but it is also a story as old as time itself.

But Larry McDonald has a stretch of Interstate 75 named for him.

“Why did so many of you vote for Kemp?”

Because the alternative was Abrams.

“It’s DOA in the GA legislature”

As is the proposal to reduce the threshold to avoid a runoff to 45% of the vote. Both RCV and this proposal have been publicly rejected by Alan Powell, who has been the vice chairman of the House Special Committee on Election Integrity.

There was an alternative in the Primary. Was Perdue the best? Nope.

Was he better than sellout Kemp? IMHO, yes.

Just remember how kemp is coddling an EV maker that is partly owned by Soros. Although Soros is apparently dumping his stock. That is what Kemp is bringing to Georgia.

Perdue ran a horrible campaign against Ossoff in the Senate runoff election in January 2021, and Kemp trounced Perdue in the primary election in 2022, 73% to 22%. I can’t remember such an @$$-whipping in a Georgia election between two well-known candidates.

As for Kemp pushing the EV plants near Rutledge and the one near Savannah, any politician in Georgia would do the same, including Perdue if he had won. I think the state gives away too much in the form of tax incentives and infrastructure promises to attract these projects, but unfortunately that’s what (most) politicians do.
