Yes a research center. Starting out with around 18,000 jobs, so they say.
But…..and if you couldn’t tell by my tone what enrages me.
1. Whole deal done in complete secrecy.
2. Former Gwinnett Cty chairperson, who didn’t run for re-election after pushing this thing thru stated…..she was elected to make decisions for her constituents. Not keep them informed and get a consensus
3. An interview conducted with “a person familiar with the deal” reveals that “the deal was done in secret so the developer could get the land cheaper”. So, Gwinnett Cty government folks conspire with developer to rip-off Gwinnett land owners.
It gets better…..they’re saying that the project could add 100k people to the area. Have you ever driven up and down 316 in your 40yrs of being in Cobb. You can barely get up and down it now.
Sadly, two of the most Conservative places in the country, Cobb and Gwinnett, are now solid Blue. Shameful.
Lawrence Patton McDonald (April 1, 1935 – September 1, 1983) was an American politician and a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Georgia's 7th congressional district as a Democrat from 1975 until he was killed while a passenger on board Korean Air Lines Flight 007 when it was shot down by Soviet interceptors.[1]Here in Georgia we had Conservative Democrats before Republicans were allowed to exist here.McDonald maintained one of the most conservative voting records in Congress and crusaded against communism. He became chairman of the John Birch Society in 1983, months before his death. He was remembered as a martyr by American conservatives.[2][3]
I don't remember being on Highway 316, but I may have and didn't have reason to remember it. I know what you mean about things done in secret with political collusion but it is also a story as old as time itself.
But Larry McDonald has a stretch of Interstate 75 named for him.
