Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has overtaken former President Trump in a hypothetical 2024 match-up for the GOP presidential nomination, according to a new Yahoo News-YouGov poll.
The nationwide poll, released Thursday, shows DeSantis with a 5-point lead over Trump, with 47 percent of registered voters backing the governor compared to 42 percent for the former president.
The latest results, taken in the first few days of December, are a stark turn from a mid-October poll that found Trump ahead by 9 percentage points, with 45 percent to DeSantis’s 36 percent.
Trump announced his third run for the White House just a week after the November midterm elections, following disappointing results for the Republican Party and losses from some of Trump’s own high-profile endorsees.
DeSantis coasted to reelection during the midterms, adding fuel to speculation of a 2024 presidential run, though he hasn’t announced his candidacy.
The latest Yahoo News-YouGov poll adds to growing evidence that many in the Republican Party are turning away from the former president and looking toward a new generation of GOP leaders.
In October, 49 percent of Republican voters said they wanted to see Trump as the nominee over “someone else,” but that figure dropped to 41 percent in December — and the vague “someone else” saw a 6-point boost.
Conducted from Dec. 1 to 5, the poll surveyed 1,653 U.S. adults and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.

still two years to go... we only have one serious candidate at this point. so all speculation is too early.
The reality is Trump has been besmirched by the dems, show investigations, the media, tinpot state Dem AGs looking to advance their careers by suing him, etc that this would be all about him, which is his Achilles heel and not policy, which is the Dem Achilles heel, in the general election. In that respect, he is politically handicapped. Most Trumpian policies are embraced by DeSantis. This is about winning. DeSantis has a clear field to shove policy in the Dems’ face without the political baggage Dems and the media have saddled Trump with.
Dems have their artillery pointed at where Trump is standing. If De Santis becomes the nominee, what do you think they are going to do with that artillery?
Until the leftist mob files the first bogus charges against DeSantis. Then the media and the social media will kick in and he will be the worst person in the world -— just exactly like Trump.

More like 14 or 15 months as far as the GOP nomination is concerned. By that time, Iowa, New Hampshire and Super Tuesday ought to have determined our nominee. Then, it’s down to one-on-one against Brandon or whomever the Rats put forth.
As for me, it’s PDJT all the way back to the White House.
And, I pray he won’t be bogged down in a malicious primary battle, unnecessarily draining his vital resources and precious time.

All polls are useless. However, this is the first useless poll that has DeSantis leading nationally (he's led in a few useless state polls).
All the previous useless polls had Trump leading and Trump-supporters here loved them!

Why? Ron DeSantis is superior to Donald Trump in every measure.
Trump could turn this around quickly if he started tweeting about issues that people are concerned about, taking the lead in trying to defend us against specific onslaughts by the Marxist left:
1. Transgender campaign against our kids (“Biden must stop encouraging and funding sex mutilations on children!”)
2. Amnesty for illegals and importation of foreigners on work visas to keep wages low. ( “Biden must stop importing a foreign work force to put bliue collar Americans out of jobs!”)
3. Endless subsidies to Ukraine. (“Biden must stop funding a war with Russia that is deafening our debt and raising prices on energy and many other necessities for middle and lower income Americans!”)
Trump has a megaphone. When he starts using it on issues that average Americans are concerned about, he’ll turn the poll numbers around. As it is, many see Desantis as their only active champion in the GOP against the woke left.
Trump does not deserve a coronation, particularly after losing the last three elections (either as a candidate or a failed kingmaker).
He owes it to voters to articulate how he will refrain from making the same mistakes he made during his first term in office.
Of course they can beat DeSantis, but they’ve already beaten Trump.
And before you say “it’s because of the cheating!”, sure, let’s say that is true, but are they going to stop cheating in 2024? Obviously not, so what’s Trump’s plan for victory, how is he going to stop the cheating, or overcome the cheating.
Trump, DeSantis, whoever, until I hear someone voice a plan to stop the cheating in 2024, and not just talk about the cheating in 2020. I’m not sure it matters. Trump will lose, so will DeSantis, so why are people getting all worked up over who’s gets to be the Dem sacrificial lamb in 2024.

Do you think Republican voters care what the media thinks about Trump or Desantis? I suspect many are choosing Desantis right now because he seems actively fighting the media and it’s pet causes like transgenders and vac mandates, while Trump is tweeting only about the 2020 election
