Rising thefts at Walmart could lead to price jumps, store closures, CEO says

Walmart stores across the U.S. are grappling with an uptick in shoplifting that could lead to higher prices and closed stores if the problem persists, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said Tuesday.
“Theft is an issue. It’s higher than what it has historically been,” he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

This is Walmart’s way of saying they have no choice but to shut down services and kill jobs, because in some jurisdictions it is considered a ‘civil rights’ issue to stop theft.

They've got the cameras. Now all they have to do is man them with people who profile potential shoplifters. It doesn't have to be racial profiling. Just behavioral profiling would work fine.
Shoplifters have certain behavioral tells that could get Walmart over the racial hump. The way they walk, they way they're always looking over their shoulders for witnesses, the way their clothing is bulging, the way prime rib steaks keep falling out of their underwear...
