It’s interesting to me that all the “big box” stores now have dozens of unused checkout lanes in place, but they haven’t converted the space to retail displays.
Does that mean they’re still undecided on the value of self check?

Every self checkout line steals a job from some poor soul who, for some reason or another, can’t find better work anywhere else.
But I guess some bean counter somewhere has decided that it’s cheaper to absorb the shoplifting costs than pay a real clerk.
