NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday said the “door is open” to admitting Ukraine into the security alliance and that the country would one day be a member.
Stoltenberg reaffirmed the commitment to bringing Ukraine into the western alliance and said Russian President Vladimir Putin would also have to contend with Finland and Sweden soon joining NATO after both countries applied in the wake of Russia’s late February invasion of Ukraine.
“President Putin cannot deny sovereign nations to make their own sovereign decisions that are not a threat to Russia,” Stoltenberg said in comments ahead of a NATO foreign ministers meeting in Bucharest, Romania. “I think what he’s afraid of is democracy and freedom, and that’s the main challenge for him.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced he would apply for NATO membership in late September with the hope to fast-track the application process amid the ongoing war with Russia.

Russia already shares a border with Poland and Lithuanian. And it is going to share one with Finland as well, regardless of what happens in Ukraine.
There are Russians here who definitely are on the side of Russia.

There are already multiple NATO countries directly on the Russian border, and there have been for decades.

NATO has been on Russia’s border for a couple decades already. Try to keep up.

Yeah, I think that’s pretty much what will happen. NATO won’t allow Ukraine in while there is fighting going on, and even if it did, Ukraine could not invoke Article V for a conflict that started before they were a member.

I think most of us tried being civil early on but some of these people are so nasty and vicious, they long ago lost any respect from us.
They think bullying, insulting and gaslighting will “win the hearts and minds.” That kind of explains their mentality right there.
There are already four Nato countries on a Russian border. They’ve been there, some of them, for over two decades.
Poland
Latvia
Lithuania
Estonia
And this year, #5, Finland, has joined, though the paperwork is still pending.
Russia is simply a huge pain in the butt to its neighbors.
The Ukrainians are pretty well trained by now.
Its run two general elections since 2014.
What country is more sovereign than that?
The US also has bases in Poland these days. Also Romania IIRC.
