A controversial new proposal to ban diesel-powered trucks in California has sparked a divisive debate among the trucking industry, the state and environmentalists.
The California Air Resources Board has laid out an ambitious plan to eventually force all diesel truck fleets off the road, with varying timelines. This includes mandating that all new trucks operating around busy railways and ports be zero-emission vehicles by 2024; phasing out all diesel trucks from those areas by 2035; and eventually taking every diesel truck and bus fleet off California roads by 2045, where feasible.
The proposed Advance Clean Fleets regulation first targets the busiest trucking areas in the state — around warehouses, sea ports and railways. The board says the pollution in these areas affects communities disproportionately.
"Many California neighborhoods, especially Black and Brown, low-income and vulnerable communities, live, work, play and attend schools adjacent to the ports, railyards, distribution centers, and freight corridors and experience the heaviest truck traffic," the board wrote, adding that this pollution causes health risks to those communities.
At a recent hearing on the issue in Sacramento, over 150 public commenters voiced divisive opinions on the proposal.
Meanwhile, environmentalists, including a representative from the Sierra Club, urged that the timeline be expedited to rid the roads of internal combustion engines sooner rather than later.

“May as well add boats and trains while they’re at it...”
Their fuel consumption per ton mile is a lot less than with trucks.
Huzzah!
Is California okay with mule trains? Because that might be the only viable alternative.
Well, the good news is that the fly population will soar again..

Californians north of Sacramento don’t deserve to live in this nutty state. Bring on the state of Jefferson.
Doubtful that the 'animal rights' crowd would allow that ...
The ‘elites’, of whom Bill-zebub Gates, is but one example, want a ‘zero CO2 emission’ world. They don’t, or won’t recognize that, without CO2 emissions, life on Earth will cease to exist! CO2 provides energy for plants, which then release oxygen into the atmosphere, making life possible. ‘Climate change’, and more precisely, a ‘zero CO2 emission’ world, is a lie and deception from the pit of hell!
We are DESIGNED to serve someone. That someone is either, God or satan. satan hates God, and since we are ‘made in God’s image’, satan sees God when he sees us and therefore, hates humanity and tries to turn humans against God. (I am certainly not saying we are ‘little gods’, as some ‘prosperity preachers’ preach, rather, we are ALL vile sinners but ‘created in God’s image’.)
Since theses ‘elites’, people like Bill-zebub Gates and the WEF fascists, reject God, they easily fall for the deceptions of satan. These ‘elites’, by denying God, are by default, serving satan. In the end, they WILL destroy human society!
Things will get so much tougher than they are today. My Bible informs me of many Believers being murdered for their faith, and the destruction of our current society, and a world that is evil to its core. As the old BTO song goes, “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!”
Praise be to God, there IS a remnant that WILL remain faithful to Him. Whether there is a ‘rapture’ before the ‘tribulation’ comes? Who knows. (No, I don’t choose to get into an eschatological debate.) I DO know that a remnant WILL be saved and, in the end, many Jews, Muslims, and many others, who are seeking His Face, WILL find Jesus and accept Him as their only way to Salvation!
Praise God!
Yep. I heard a guy talking about this on the radio the other day. This is a recipe for disaster.
There's a world of wiggle room in those two words.
“...where feasible..”
It’s not feasible now or ever F’head!
My crystal ball has this vision of huge transfer points at the CA border choke points such as Yuma, AZ, Reno, NV, etc. many if not most trailers will switch between CA electric and North America trucks. In addition. CA ports will become a backwater destination. This has already started as shippers have already massively redirected cargoes from the west coast to ports on the Gulf and southeast Atlantic coasts to simplify logistics and reduce costs for supply chains.
The crystal ball started hopping around after that troubling vision. Babbling something about some insane event where NY, MA, CT and NJ did the same thing re. mandating electric vehicles. This cutoff the upper New England states from interstate commerce and they were mobilizing National Guard on their borders facing the wokey states. Even Vermont joined the free states. Too much stress on the ‘ole crystal ball and it just cracked up, err shattered. I think I'll replace it with a magic 8 ball, less temperamental.
They are.
Any commercial vehicle that uses a diesel engine in california, and rv coaches using diesels registered in CA are required to comply with the diesel HD I/M bs they’re pimping.
This is not news, it’s been known since january last year. they just finalized the regulations last month, however. They didn’t change much though.
Bad enough i’ve been dumping my diesel trucks while I can and switching to good old ford gassers.
>>They’re planning ahead, horse and buggies are easier to rob.
Horse farts cause global warming.
Before diesel engines became more common big trucks ran on LP gas, as did farm equipment.
Shipping lanes to redirect towards saner ports with access to the Pacific Ocean.
The battery pack in the New Hummer H3 weighs over 3,000 pounds to move a 9,000 pound vehicle. The gross vehicle weight of a typical tractor-trailer combination is 20 tons or so. How much cargo weight will have to be forfeited in order to allow for the added weight of the battery pack, which will surely be several tons. To say nothing of the increased costs due to the lower cargo capacity per trip.
‘
An EV typically weighs 40% more than a comparable ICE vehicle, due to the weight of the battery pack. Don’t forget to factor in the increased wear on tires, infrastructure and roads, bridges, etc., along with the concomitant maintenance needs and further damage to Mother Earth Gaia as a result...
Much of our governing elites are beyond belief stupid and reckless.
California looks to ban 21st century - ymmv
