The weekend mass shooting at the Colorado Springs gay bar has reignited the debate over whether anti-LGBTQ political rhetoric encourages such attacks or otherwise helps create a hostile environment given the widespread access to high-powered weapons used in similar assaults.
"This comes amidst a rise of violent rhetoric and threats against the LGBTQ+ people across the country. What we don't know yet -- while we don't know yet for certain the motive of this attack, hate has no place in this country, and neither do military style assault rifles, which is why we will continue to push for an assault weapons ban," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing Tuesday.
The attack, about midnight on Nov. 19, came on the eve of Transgender Day of Remembrance, which honors the memory of the lives of transgender people who have been victims of discriminatory violence. Authorities say the suspect, using a long gun and handgun, opened fire in Club Q, a self-described "safe haven" for LGBTQ residents of Colorado Springs.
Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., chair of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus, released a statement on Sunday condemning the "twin epidemics of hate and gun violence."
"LGBTQ+ clubs are often a place of refuge and affirmation for our community, yet once again what should have been a safe space became the target of a violent and deadly attack," he said. "We know the toxic combination of hate and access to guns in this country leads to deadly results."
The tragedy occurred in the backyard of one of Congress' staunchest gun rights advocates -- Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert -- who tweeted prayers for the victims of the mass shooting, much to the ire of Democrats who said her past remarks about the LGBTQ+ community helped lead to the attack.

Murderer is himself a faggot ...
Comes at a time of high-profile child-grooming, too. Coincidence?
Those right wing transgenders…
Shooting up gay bars…
God help us if we talk about something and criticize it.
Can’t do that.
Maybe, then, these communists should stop talking about how evil half the population is with their conservative views.
Straight white man evil.
A sane person would feel some shame upon finding out that the killer is “non-binary” and apologize for blaming normal people. But liberals have no shame.
So, apparently they are going to just completely ignore that the shooter is a non-binary and likely one of their own.
“Comes amid rise in anti political rhetoric.”
1) ugh? Nope, not true, there is no rise cause there is no such thing to begin with.
2) perv goes to perv bar and shoots up a bunch of pervs. Sounds like a perv issue, has zero to do with anybody or anything else.
Yes, I would consider their in yo face deviant parades, pimping sexual deviancy to school kids and Crayola flags flying everywhere as being political rhetoric.
The shooter’s legal team claiming the shooter is nonbinary, is an attempt to take the hate crime charges off the table.
The more obnoxious and pushy they get the more the rhetoric. Get used to it.
Call MSM...tell them to stop degenerating society by calling good evil and evil good.
Hey! Isabella Murray! Did you not get the memo?
HE’S A FAG!....................
Rhetoric is so bad the LTBTQ+’s started killing each other?
They won't, so cancel your TV subscriptions and stay out of Disney Land. Tell them with your money.
woring title, the article should state:
Colorado Springs shooting comes amid rise in liberal tendency to be soft on crime and criminals along with the liberal defund the police movement.
The shooter’s preferred pronouns are they/their. Makes for confusing reading when the article honors the pronoun choice because Aldrich is referred to as “they”. This gives a culturally unwashed person like me some difficulty discerning just who is being referred to as “they”. I guess I can take 66 years of speaking reasonably precise English and flush all my experience down the blatantly absurd preferred pronoun toilet.
I have decided that henceforth my preferred pronoun with be “His Majesty”.
It comes amid the rise of the LGBTQBlahBlahBlah agenda being rammed down our throats and the insistence of pushing this to little children.
But that’s not what drove the psycho to shoot those people. I suspect it was a lover’s quarrel or a personal revenge act of some sort.
