I’ve worked in the tech industry 25+ years. I learned very early on that I was completely replaceable.

The talent search doesn't have to be that far since the code is already written. This is about maintenance, security, deactivating users, and adding new users.

Twitter doesn't even need to market itself anymore, except maybe to those who left or were de-platformed.

If the talent pool is tight, Elon Musk may have to delay innovations but that's not likely.

I too spent much time in the business...One day sort of bragging to my dad about money and my position, he looks at me and says, The graveyard is full of indispensable people...I looked at things differently since.

He said he was going to buy it for a lark. But the board of directors sued him to not be able to back out.

Yawn...

Elon has more than deep enough pockets to weather short term chaos...

Even if the company is down to 900ish employees (depending on which employees) that is more than enough to keep the site operational... unless of course twitters codebase is brittle crap...

5.8 Billion in Revenue last year, and and an operating lost of 500 Million (approx)

Predicted revenues this year were 7.5 Billion.

Cutting staff by 50% was more than enough to make Twitter a profitable company.

Seems to me, that at least at the moment, Elon just made Twitter Profitable... even if its created some short term chaos to do it.

I think he paid too much for it, but I think nearly everything in tech is overvalued by traditional evaluation models.

Another genius move. If they quit they can’t draw unemployment. If they were laid off, Elon would be on the hook for an expensive severance package and unemployment.

I think once he gets the numbers down to the real workers he will relocate to Texas or Florida.

Well in the case of the movie the employees escaped being caught only because another disgruntled employee burned the building down. But that movie was before the cloud.

Look the obvious vulnerability is taking out database data. And I have to think Musk has that backed up safe by now. Malicious stuff in the software itself is gonna be impossible to hide. Taking down servers will only be an inconvenience as everything these days can be restored from code base with new servers--the whole "cattle not pets" design approach in dev-ops has been going on for years.

It would be even harder to screw them if they went completely Infrastructure as Code (IAC).

Its like embezzling money without leaving a trail. Its just hard to do.

Musk expected substantially more work out of his employees for the same pay. Of course many employees would leave.

It has been barely a month since Musk acquired Twitter. That is not nearly enough time to sort out personnel issues/pay. I retired as a salaried employee. Being on salary means you have to put in extra hours when the core business requires it. I've been in a few toxic work environments over my working career. Who quits only after a month with a new boss?

“Seems to me, that at least at the moment, Elon just made Twitter Profitable”

Those numbers are from when Twitter had giant corporate sponsors throwing money at it. They are gone now which throws off that currently profitable conclusion.

I’m not so sure about Musk demanding that employees pledge to be “extremely hardcore.” Is he transforming Twitter into SpaceXXX?

That never happened.
Twitter has never been particularly profitable before. They lost money most years of their existence.
