Fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine
A team of researchers at the University of Houston may have developed a "vaccine" blocking the ability of the dangerous synthetic opioid fentanyl to enter the brain.
The findings, published late last month in the journal Pharmaceutics, have been described as a potential game changer in addressing an epidemic that has claimed thousands of American lives.
Fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. A dose of only 2 milligrams – the size of two grains of rice – could potentially be fatal.
The study’s lead author, research associate professor Colin Haile, said the vaccine is able to generate "anti-fentanyl antibodies that bind to the consumed fentanyl and prevent it from entering the brain, allowing it to be eliminated out of the body via the kidneys."
"Thus, the individual will not feel the euphoric effects and can ‘get back on the wagon’ to sobriety," he said.
He added that the anti-fentanyl antibodies were specific to that, and a fentanyl derivative did not cross-react with other opioids like morphine. This means that a person vaccinated for fentanyl could still be treated with other opioids.
Though Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) is treatable, around 80% of those dependent on opioids suffer a relapse, according to research.
Clinical studies on the vaccine did not cause adverse side effects in the immunized rats involved. The research team will manufacture clinical-grade vaccines with clinical trials in humans in the coming months.

The word “vaccine” has been re-defined to mean “Cool medicine that we want to sell to you”.
I imagine that Listerine may be marketed as a vaccine if we keep moving in this direction.

The wife eats them like candy. Yet wont eat peas, or beet greens, or anything like that.
Beet greens are most likely the highest nutritional value of anything.
The addicts will not take it because they want to get high.
The last thing 99% of addicts want is something that will keep them from getting their high. Drugs like naltrexone have been around for a while, haven’t made a dent in the opioid addiction crisis.
The possibility of a Fentanyl vaccine was announced at a ground breaking ceremony at the future site of the University of Houston Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán Research Center.
Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke at the ceremony and said his patents were the last keys to unlocking the teams dramatic research breakthrough and that the vaccine will be mandated for all Republicans and Independents but optional for all right thinking Democrats which seemed awfully strange.

The users will choose another opioid. There are a bunch fentanyl derivatives I wonder if it will block them or will it be like Covid?
