Nevada Senate election - live: Laxalt lead narrows as mail-in ballots favour Cortez Masto in crucial race

One of America’s most contested midterm races, between Adam Laxalt and Catherine Cortez Masto, is coming to a head in Nevada.

As of Thursday morning, Republican Mr Laxalt maintained a slight lead over Democratic incumbent Ms Cortez Masto in the Senate race with just over 79 per cent of votes counted, according to the New York Times.

The race could still be subject to substantial shifts as two counties with the vast majority of voters - Clark and Washoe - continue to tabulate mail-in ballots late into Wednesday night with large margins for Democrats, according to the Nevada Independent.

Those ballots will continue to come in over the next several days, as state law requires them to be postmarked by Election Day at the latest.

In the race for Nevada governor, incumbent Democrat Steve Sisolak was several points behind Republican challenger Joe Lombardo, sheriff of Clark County and head of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, as of Thursday morning with 79 per cent of votes counted.

Four House seats are also up for grabs in Nevada, with Republican Mark Amodei claiming the first victory as he won reelection for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District.

Last night went exactly as we anticipated. We added 3K from the rurals and more are coming. She added some Clark County mail. We expect the remaining mail universe to fall well below the percentage she needs to catch us. No status change.

Washoe County did NOT tabulate into the ight-—

Poll workers went home with 61,000 more ballots to process & only 4000 done on Wednesday.

At that rate-—we are looking at 15 more days to get results.

SHORTAGE of POLL WORKERS is the comment.

NEVER heard a single peep about needing poll workers, and I live in N Nevada.

The mantra is : Mail in ballots take more time to process: Verify envelope signed...Open envelope...etc, etc, etc.

IF voting by mail is such a slow process-—WHY are we shoved into doing it????

SO DEMS CAN STEAL ELECTIONS

Late mail in voting. Means dims know they lost, so pack in those illegal votes by mail asap so they can keep this seat.

Laxalt lead narrows.

Of course it does. Just takes a little longer to manufacture the votes needed to beat him.

No big deal.

Our vote is worthless. If there is one single case of fraud the entire vote is wasted.

Mail in ballots in Florida must be received by the time polls close on election day. It doesn’t matter what the postmark says. You can request email notification that your ballot has been received and counted.

Don’t know about Nevada, but Covid jabs are required for poll workers in some places.

How will they get a postmark stamped Nov. 8, or whenever the official poll closing time is?

The same crap as two years ago. Time for Romney’s niece to go. She’s done a lousy job as boss of the RNC. A guy like Stephen Miller, a Trump confidant, would be terrific in that job.

No kidding, she's had two years to renegotiate the Presidential debate format and she's accomplished nothing.

I think the aholes should have deadlines to submit ballots. You shouldn’t need three weeks to figure out the results. Poll workers should be required to have taken math in Head Start and Kindergarten.

You shouldn't need 3 weeks to fill out a ballot either.

Update

He notes that Clark reported results from about 14k mail ballots last night.

He says there are still more than 50k ballots that must be counted in Clark.

“Majority of mail should be counted in Clark County by Saturday.”

the county received more than 6k ballots through the mail. Yesterday, it was a little less than 13k from the mail.

Every 10k or so additional votes in Clark will reduce the lead by 1k or so, assuming everything else is flat or leans Laxalt. If they’re only adding 5-6k a day or less until the deadline the 12th, they’re not going to catch up.
