Trump violates Reagan’s 11th commandment, attacks Ron DeSantis: A big mistake that will have consequences
American Thinker ^ | 11/06/2022 | Thomas Lifson

I will always be grateful for the presidency of Donald Trump and, if he is the GOP nominee for president in 2024, I will support him. But I am very disturbed that yesterday, at an airport rally in Pennsylvania, he attacked Ron DeSantis...with one of his derisive nicknames, except that this one doesn’t even make any sense:

Trump mocks DeSantis as "Ron DeSanctimonious" at a rally tonight in Pennsylvania. pic.twitter.com/efTl2vNQRB — The Bias (@thebias_news) November 6, 2022

President Reagan of blessed memory left us with a very useful 11th commandment: “Thou shalt not attack another Republican."

In today’s political environment, with the Democrat party in the hands of the radical left, and wrecking our economy, society and ability to defend ourselves, defeating them and taking control of the Oval Office and both houses of Congress (with substantial majorities) is more important than any individual’s political career. So, Reagan’s rule is even more important than when he enunciated it himself.

Notice that the crowd didn’t respond very forcefully to Trump’s insult. I suspect that most of them have at least some respect for what DeSantis has accomplished in Florida. He kept that state from fully engaging with the Covid lockdown madness that has so severely harmed us and our children. Perhaps Trump’s biggest failure in office was his inability to do what DeSantis did, which was to see through the tainted advice of “experts” like Dr. Fauci, and, instead, to stand up for common sense. Trump, to put it starkly, was duped and DeSantis was not.

That’s a hard truth that must rankle Trump and may account for some of his hostility toward Florida’s governor.

Ron has said he wasnt going to run if Trump runs..Trump should knock it off. Yeah, I guess I am in the minority on this. No need to knock Desantis if he isnt an opponent.

You are not in the minority. I'm tired of President Trump's unforced errors, in appointments and behavior. Why ? Because God gave him talent an opportunity to turn this country around and he is squandering it with vanities.

No, This is a big mistake and people have to understand the election is not won by the vote of hard core Trump supporters but by independents and women, that is why we will have a red wave Tuesday. Trump style is to say what is on his mind (good and bad) and he puts down any perceived competition, he needs to take lessons from Kari Lake on effective humor (alas he won’t ) for those who think this is not big deal, they need to volunteer and work for him and go door to door, you will hear time and again from independents and women how they would vote for him except for this pettiness-so if you haven’t volunteered for Trump and think this is not big deal, well-you need to voluteer and hear it youself

If their viewpoint is irrelevant than why be here amongst other people with varying viewpoints? Oh, and when was “The Party” conservative and open and principle-centered, whatever that gibberish means.

DeSantis has already said he would not run against Trump if Trump was ‘in’...

DeSantis is a man of action - not of words. That said, most of us in Florida would follow him off a cliff if he felt that was the better path. The man has amazing instincts.

The ad (God made a fighter) was based on a 1978 speech (“God Made a Farmer”) to the FFA (Future Farmers of America) by a conservative radio personality, Paul Harvey, and was meant to appeal to our large farming community here in Florida, particularly in the north and western parts of the state.

I think there may even be a song based on it.

Trump, in addition to being just plain rude for no good reason, was also pretty tone-deaf on this one. I don’t know who is advising him, if anybody. But if he does have advisers, he needs to change them right now.

I have not yet chosen a horse for 2024. I probably won’t til Nov 2023.

But any team that is serious needs a strong bench. Nobody knows the future. Something unfortunate could happen to any person on the first squad, or on the bench. Don’t put all your marbles on one person.

No, he didn’t lose your vote if this is how he supposedly
loses your vote.

Nice try.

I’ve heard it many times. I also know what kind of people these are that are saying it. They didn’t like Trump before and won’t likely in the future. These are the very people who vote us right back into complacency with establishment candidates who will, oh so glibly, continue to sell us out to the CCP, etc. Some of these people are/were friends of mine. It was kind of hard realizing that I had misjudged them. I had thought their IQ’s were in the triple digit range, but in time, it became clear that they did not even break 100.

Correct. And for Trump to call anyone sanctimonious is the working definition of the pot calling the kettle black.

Yep. From what I’ve read, Trump doesn’t have any real advisers. He simply says what he wants, when he wants. In some cases that works out. His stark warning to the Germans regarding their reliance on Russian oil comes to mind.

But way more often it hurts him. No one is so perfect that they don’t need a filter.

Maybe the Paul Harvey ad was good and made its point. I haven’t seen it so I don’t know but that’s kind of my point. If you don’t know it, the new ad comes across as, well, weird. I’m not in FLA so I don’t want to judge what the ad may mean to Floridians. I didn’t take Trump’s comment as rude, more like ribbing. That said, Trump needs to stick to facts and ignore the other candidates for now except to support the good ones.

“ In some cases that works out…”

Like in winning two presidential elections?

Suddenly people want him to follow DeSantis lead. Do what macarthy and McConnell want do what Tge media wants. Follow to suburban women

You know, DeSantis is the darling of the suburban woman. First place Tge media will make up a story about him with videos etc.

So weak.

Not judging on the Freepmail that I get with people that are afraid to speak up against Trump openly and wish the party would become conservative and open and principle-centered again.

The Republican Party was the party of Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Liz Cheney, Carl Rove, George and Jeb Bush.

That wasn't a "conservative and open and principle-centered party". That was a party of the global establishment.

Those emails sound like gas lighting to me.

Richard Baris is usually on the mark, so I trust what he says. I also know what weasels Ryan and McCarthy are and I’m shocked anybody here would want them deciding who is in charge(???). The last sentence is key to the whole yjing and is how Trump rolls. He’s not speaking to us abd calling DeSantis a name. He’s talking directly to DeSantis to let him know he’s on to him. Trump, contrary to those saying he’s near, always pulls his punches. He knows so much more than what he is actually saying about these people and issues. I, for one, DO NOT anyone that is valued by establishment traitors like Ryan. McCarthy, McConnell, and that includes DeSantis and Youngkin.

Yes, Trump did win two presidential elections. I want him to win a third. I don’t know much about DeSantis. Is he the real deal, or is he just another poser?

But I do know Trump is the real deal. We need him back in the White House. That can only happen if he plays it smart, all the time.

Because it’s not a level playing field. Biden can say the most outrageous things, and they are not reported. But every controversial thing Trump says hits the headlines. So Trump must avoid saying those things. They lose him votes.

And as the old story goes, for the want of a nail, a kingdom was lost.
