Elon Musk Twitter Deal Completed, CEO and CFO Immediately Fired
WSJ ^ | October 28 2022 | Lauren Thomas

Elon Musk fired several Twitter Inc. executives after completing his takeover of the company, according to people familiar with the matter, capping an unusual corporate battle and setting up one of the world’s most influential social-media platforms for potentially broad change.

Mr. Musk fired Chief Executive Parag Agrawal and Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal after the deal closed, the people said. Mr. Musk also fired Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s top legal and policy executive, and Sean Edgett, general counsel. Spokespeople for Twitter didn’t comment.

Hours after those actions, Mr. Musk tweeted: “the bird is freed” in a seeming reference to Twitter, which has a blue bird as its logo.

Vijaya Gadde

Mr. Musk first agreed to buy Twitter in April for $44 billion, then threatened to walk away from the deal, before reversing course again this month and committing to see through the acquisition. He previously indicated unhappiness with some of the top ranks at Twitter, at one point responding to a tweet from Mr. Agrawal with a poop emoji. He also used the site to mock Ms. Gadde, the top legal boss, tweeting an image overlaid with text that repeated allegations Twitter had a left-wing political bias.

It wasn’t immediately clear who would step into the top positions left vacant by Thursday’s exits. CNBC earlier reported the departures of Mr. Agrawal and Mr. Segal.

The deal, in which Twitter will again become a private company, adds to Mr. Musk’s expansive business reach, which also includes running Tesla Inc., the world’s most-valuable car company, and rocket company Space Exploration Technologies Corp., or SpaceX, among other endeavors. Mr. Musk, who had become Twitter’s largest individual shareholder, previously said he would pay for the acquisition mostly with cash, some contributed by co-investors, and $13 billion in debt.

I think you overestimate Musk, many do.
I am not a fan.
As to the EV debacle, time will tell, and perhaps soon.
G’night.

I think there is a very good chance he will make another pile of cash from this.

Not only will he bring people back and end the censorship of any view to the right of Vladimir Lenin, he will also add other services to Twitter like payments (directly competing with PayPal), games, etc. He plans to make it an all-in-one app as well as to allow content creators to get paid for creating things others want to see.

With Facebook dying and TikTok headed for either a ban or a forced divestment by the US government sooner or later, and with PayPal having pissed off and lost a huge chunk of their customers, Musk could swoop right and and scoop up a lot of market share.

That's hard to do.
No one is changing humanity right now more than he is.

I agree that it could still be a huge moneymaker for him. Double your users means doubling the ad revenue.

Free basic service, but extra services like graphics will be an extra charge. I understand what he could do with it.

He might even allow 141 characters. Hahahaha

I’d have paid money to watch Vijaya Gadde getting walked out. She’s a real piece of poo. She featured prominently in a Joe Rogan interview where Tim Poole closely questioned her and Jack Dorsey, the former CEO.

No, I just remember many of his bizarre and sensationalist claims.
Many if not most of which never come to pass.
Also his penchant for lobbying to limit our freedoms to his own advantage.
So not MY hero and never will be.
Buying Twit to reform it does not impress me, I am not a Twit slave.

Perhaps, but I am NOT a fan of many of those changes and attempted changes.
I will keep my ICE cars despite all the lobbying to ban them he may pay for.
That little bit of overplayed greed cost him my respect forever.

Indeed. IMO, student visas to schools in this country should only be issued for learning what they need to help IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES and NOT to wangle out a way to stay here. If they want to stay here after graduation by getting an H1B or something make them go HOME an stay for 5 years and then apply just like everybody else.

I was in University Research three decades and I’ve seen it all. They get the money to pay out-of-state tuitions to get here, then become state residents and then take a cheap intern job, graduate and go H1-B.

Never thought about going back to their country, but always eager to make this country in their own crap hole country’s image. That, or they’re just state-supported spies like ‘some’ (all?) of a certain country’s ‘students’ here.

Actually Musk has said that trying to ban ICE cars is a bad idea, we don’t have the infrastructure (electrical generation, transmission and distribution) to support an all electric vehicle fleet. Blame power-grabbing politicians for that.
