into humiliating retreat: and liberate dozens of occupied towns - as NATO 'warns Kremlin will test NUKES on the border to save face'

Russia's frontline has collapsed in the south of Ukraine with dozens of towns liberated in a matter of hours Kyiv said its troops are 'confidently advancing to the sea' as city of Davydiv Brid is now under their control

Pro-Russian military bloggers said their forces had retreated around 10 miles down the Dnipro River It comes just days after Putin declared the Kherson region - along with three others - to be part of Russia

Russia's frontline has collapsed in the south of Ukraine with dozens of towns liberated in a matter of hours, according to sources on both sides of the conflict.

Kyiv said its troops are 'confidently advancing to the sea' as videos showed the city of Davydiv Brid under their control along with a clutch of smaller settlements in the surrounding countryside.

Meanwhile pro-Russian military bloggers said their forces had retreated around 10 miles down the Dnipro River as the entire northern end of their territory west of the river fell into Ukrainian hands.

It comes just days after President Vladimir Putin declared the Kherson region - along with three others - to be part of Russia, vowing they would belong to Moscow 'forever'.

Meantime, NATO has warned it is anticipating Russia may detonate a nuke on Ukraine's borders in a demonstration of Putin's resolve.

And news of Russian defeats in the region are significant, because Putin has based the majority of his best soldiers there - up to 30,000 of them, by some accounts.

Should Moscow's armies retreat from Kherson, then questions will be raised over whether they can continue to hold any of the territory they have taken in Ukraine.

“ Putin will be deposed or dead by March. Whoever comes after Putin will end Vlad Putin’s war.”

Or they’ll be worse.

“ Basically, US advisors are refighting WWII eastern front battles, playing the role of the nazis. Shameful.”

What’s shameful is calling your fellow Americans nazis. Are you a Democrat?

The thing is that these aren’t the “best weapons” the US has, far from it.

The HIMARS system that the US has @1500 of (including its big brother the MLRS) is standard issue US artillery. All this destruction was caused by just 16 HIMARS and about 8 MLRS from the Euros.

HIMARS are being used here as poor substitutes for what the USAF normally does. The USAF hasnt poked its nose over the border to do their “shock and awe” and “Highway of Death” act.

Very effective.

Putin did ominously address Odessa in his February 21 speech, but not so directly as to say he declared it would be liberated.

Why would NATO want to take the trouble to put nukes in a NATO Ukraine when they have so many easier options?

“ Sure, that looks bad for the Checkers crowd. But Putin is playing Chess.”

Doesn’t look like he’s doing a great job at playing “Invade Ukraine”.

The Russian airforce cant really overfly Ukraine, except along the edge of the combat area, and then only at very low level. What the Russians failed to do at the outset was to destroy the Uke air defense system.

Ukraine has something like 200 or so S300 launchers plus several other ex-Soviet systems. The RuAF has no answer to that, as it seems their SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) sucks.

Since then their only way to hit something deep in Ukraine was cruise missles, of which they have a limited number. They launch missiles almost daily, but its seldom more than 6 or so. These are good only for fixed installations and they are not as accurate as US gps guided munitions.

The purpose is not for the war to end, but to be endless. It’s the weapons makers’ gravy train.

If Vietnam didn't drive that point home, Afghanistan should have.

The actual, though unofficial, pro Russia maps are the most up to date. Because they are the most timely they present the worst case for Russia.

"Huge loss of Russian life and materiel."

Yes, more in seven months than the U.S. lost in Vietnam in ten years.

what surprises me is... why hasn’t Putin attacked further into Ukraine? why not level the capital? Attack military training facilities, take out power plants etc?

I've been wondering that myself. Could the Russian military really be this bad?

To those supporting Russia and President Putin on this and other threads, whatever happens at the moment was all part of the plan all along.

It is irrational, but they are equivalent of Q for Trump in the USA.

Everything that happens is part of the plan.

Thousands of armored vehicles destroyed?

Either a lie, or part of the plan.

They are suffering from cognitive dissonance.

Russia simply does not have the power they thought Russia had, which most of the world thought Russia had.

Conforming thought to reality can be quite painful.
