Florida Parents Object to Homework Assignment for a Photo of 2nd Grader Doing Homework in the Bathtub
https://www.crimeonline.com ^ | Sept 23 2022 | KC Wildmoon

A second-grader at a Florida Christian academy was “administratively withdrawn” from the school after her parents questioned a homework assignment that requested “a picture of you doing reading homework in the bathtub.”

The student’s mother, Misty Dunham, promptly sent a message to her daughter’s teacher at Victory Christian Academy in Jacksonville.

“I emailed the teacher ‘Hey, you may want to explain that. Send something out to the parents. Let them know what the intentions are.’ This just does not sound OK,” Dunham told WJAX. “She did send out a message saying, ‘You should be in pajamas, be in your uniform, have fun with it.’ But, it didn’t sit right.”

It didn’t sit right, so Dunham filed a report with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The report, obtained by WJAX, said school administrators told the Dunhams, “We have been sending this homework assignment for years, and you’re the only one complaining about it.”

Dunham said a school administrator later called.

“(He said) ‘I think you guys should do a parental withdrawal for the child.’ I said, ‘I can’t. I can’t do that. We refuse to withdraw her,’” she said. “He said, ‘OK thank you for saying that,’ and continued on saying that, ‘Well, we’re going to proceed with an administration withdraw.’”

And just like that, the Dunhams’ daughter is no longer enrolled at Victory Christian Academy, a ministry of Victory Baptist Church. The parents told WJAX they got no explanation.

The original homework instructions did not mention pajamas. There was a place for parents to put their initials but this was 8 year olds. I can just see some 8 year old girl grabbing dad’s cell phone to take a selfie in the bathtub and since pajamas weren’t mentioned and she always takes baths naked...She accidentally sends it out over the web. Next thing you know, dad’s arrested for sending out child porn from his phone.

It was just a weird idea to begin with.

If the assignment was ‘innocent’ or benign as claimed, the school should have offered the girl an alternate assignment for the same credit. Offering a second choice happens a lot in schools. I think the schools just did not like having to explain themselves to a “mere” parent of a student.

They seem to have the same mindset as most public schools, believing they (the school) is above reproach and all knowing.

It’s OK to ask.... except if it is a shop teacher.

The teacher requested a photo of the child reading homework in the bathtub...

When the parent rightfully complained, the teacher replied, ‘You should be in pajamas, be in your uniform, have fun with it.’

Why be in the bathtub with your pajamas or uniform on??????

The teacher wanted a nude photo of the kid...THAT IS OBVIOUS

Agreed - I don’t see a reason for it. But it sounds like she could of stood fully clothed in the tub holding a book and taken a picture. Would have taken 30 seconds, if that long.

That is right.

and someone added to the keywords up there, ‘really old news’ and ‘posted several times’. I searched for this and did not find it previously posted and as for it being ‘really old news’ it was reported Sept 23 2022.

Is there a liberal about that objects to this?

Well, the article states:

school administrators told the Dunhams, “We have been sending this homework assignment for years, and you’re the only one complaining about it.”

If true, and the assignment stated things like, in PJ's or clothed, specifically not naked, then the parent may just be creating a problem that doesnt exist. But its a weird assignment in any case and coming from a Christian academy, you'd think administrators had more sense than that after 'years' of giving this assignment out.

And what was the learning objective? It’s nothing but a waste of time. They already give too much homework. They have the kids 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week. But they claim unless the kid has to do a couple of hours at home it’s impossible to teach them. The idiot school leaders want to dominate the kids and family life from 8 to 8.
And this assignment has no place in an era where kids are being groomed.

What this assignment does is to tell kids it’s fine for a non family member to ask for a photo somewhere you would normally be naked.

Just file charges of child pornography against the school admin, the current teacher, prior year teachers, all their communication by e-mail, text, et al. The school assignment is evidence in and of itself as well as the e-mail comm between the school and parent(s).

This assignment is akin to a creepy old uncle that likes to play “I’ve-got-your-nose” while putting it in his pocket and asking the kid to reach in and find it.

sue their asses

A ‘Christian’ school allowed this?????

If my daughter came home from school with an assignment from a male teach asking for a photograph of them in the bathtub the LAST thing that teacher would have to worry about is the subsequent visit from the police.

In fact he would probably be calling them himself for protection.

I would have withdrawn my child immediately. What else is going on in that not so Christian school?

Teacher and pastor were both hoping to see a little sumpin’ sumpin’. Maybe no bubbles or a shower show. The whole idea is sickening. Which curriculum published this assignment??? Those parents should contact the Southern Baptist Convention.

Victory Christian Academy...I guess I would like to know more before accepting that was the intent. Sounds more like just stupid, but I reserve judgement.
