CNN: Russian ships and submarines were spotted near the Nord Stream pipeline
Hot Air ^ | September 29, 2022 | John Sexton

As Ed pointed out yesterday, there were indications from Danish and Swedish authorities that the leaks from the Nord Stream pipelines were the result of explosions, i.e. deliberate sabotage not accidents. All eyes immediately turned to Russia who has been playing games with gas deliveries through the pipelines for months. The NY Times created this graph showing the gas supply over time. As you can see, it took a sudden dip in June and then was up and down until this month when they shut it off indefinitely.

(snip)

Still, with the gas already cut off, why bother sabotaging the pipelines? The fact that the exact motive was unclear seemed to leave some doubt about who was responsible. But today we’re learning a bit more about why Europe is pointing the finger at Russia.

(snip)

Russian ships pass through the area on a weekly basis so seeing them in the area prior to the pipeline explosion doesn’t prove a connection. Officially, the US is being more hesitant about assigning blame for this than their European counterparts. National Security adviser Jake Sullivan did refer to the leaks as “apparent sabotage” but beyond that US officials aren’t committing themselves publicly.

There is also the possibility that it was blown up via a remotely controlled inspection capsule loaded up with explosives instead of cameras.

Might only superficially look like against Russia’s interest.

Consider

1. Germany seized 2 or 3 Germany located Russian owned refineries.

A tit-for-tat reaction to that is very Russian.

2. In the bigger picture, this puts more pressure on Europe. Particularly the Northern European (like the Scandinavian countries) who have gotten uncharacteristically very bold in their antiRussian diplomacy due to the Ukraine situation. Europe through its unicorn snorts & fairy farts energy policies have put themselves in a very unstable dangerous energy, economic societal situation. (Maybe the UK, Sweden & Italy are turning this around, it won’t be instantaneous.) Putin maybe betting his people can suffer more “inconvenience” than the Europeans. He knows Uncle Sammy can’t ride to the energy rescue, we’ve got our own version of energy fantasyland. I can see this as a game of “energy chicken” with the respective populations. He thinks Russians can eat “cold chicken” longer. Past history says they can, recent modern history, maybe not!

If we had done it, I think that it would be leaked in a “believable fashion” by now.

And yes, he could have just turned off his end rather than blow up sections. He also could have “cyberly” turned off sections through the control software. However, this more dramatic and everyone is pointing fingers. We could have turned it off “cyberly” also. Blowing sections up seems so last century and unnecessary. The “bombs” in themselves are a message from someone, maybe Russia, maybe not! I think Russia for the reasons above. New information, I’ll change my opinion.

I still wouldn’t rule out a radical environmental group doing it. Germany, Northern Europe has many such groups that have money and sophistication.

Russian submarines were spotted by a Danish mermaid 70 meters below the surface. She can occasionally be seen sitting on a rock in the harbor of Copenhagen.

The sighting was corroborated by her friend Sebastian.

It’s true, CNN and the United States Government said so.

Russia invaded Ukraine illegally.
Russia committed massive war crimes in Ukraine.
Russia destroyed Ukrainian utilities and attacked a nuclear plant.
Russia destroyed Ukrainian cities and towns.

I’ll give Biden a pass. But if you want to side with Putin go for it!

The Nord Stream pipeline lies at a depth of around 80-110m.

How far we’ve come when the US government has about the same integrity as the Russian government.

“I still wouldn’t rule out a radical environmental group doing it. Germany, Northern Europe has many such groups that have money and sophistication.”

I have been thinking along those lines as well. Do they have the ability to pull that off?

Believing that the Russians did this is about the stupidest thing I’ve heard in the entire month of September.

What possible gain do they have from this? Especially when you consider they can turn off the flow of gas on this pipeline at any time of their choosing. They could have blown this up at their shore terminals if they really wanted to destroy it. They could have just turned the valves off if they wanted to weaponize their energy deliveries or use them to extort action from the EU. Removing the possibility of gas flowing to EU customers removes any possible leverage the Russians may have against the EU. What other card do they have to play at this point besides force and nuclear force?

These pipelines were blown by the US or US allies or interests. Why? Because from a military perspective, this gives the US an excuse to enter the war directly- BECAUSE destroying this pipeline may imperil the lives of millions of Europeans. How many will die from the cold of winter because of this?

The US at a bare minimum will profit because of the weapons that they can sell into the region, and because of the weapons the pentagon will buy to hand over to the Ukraine.

ALso keep in mind that the power play of killing this pipeline will cost Russia billions in sales to a near-captive consumer.

“Russia invaded Ukraine illegally.”

According to the West/US/UK/EU/NATO. In most of the rest of world, especially in them 4 regions that asked for Russian to intervene on their behalf, they know otherwise.

“Russia committed massive war crimes in Ukraine.”

And the Ukrainians spent 8-years committing an act of genocide against the Russian speaking Ukrainian Donbass region.

And the Ukrainians have committed war crimes from removing the testicles of Russian POWs to still shelling Ukrainian civilians in the Donbass regions, to cutting POWs and then videoing them bleeding out, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.

“Russia destroyed Ukrainian utilities and attacked a nuclear plant.”

Yes, the very same nuclear power plant that the Russians were supposedly shelling themselves in. Okie dokie. The same nuclear facility that was actually shelled by the Ukrainians, not the Russians according to ballistic, military, civilians on the ground. Yeah, okie dokie.

And civilian utilities cease to be off-limits if those utilities are providing power or whatever to the military or the military is using them.

“Russia destroyed Ukrainian cities and towns.”

And the Ukrainians are still shelling Ukrainian city’s and towns that have absolutely no Russians forces in them.
