Italians are voting in an election that is forecast to deliver the country’s most radical rightwing government since the end of the second world war, and a prime minister ready to become a model for nationalist parties across Europe.
A coalition led by Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy, a party with neofascist origins, is expected by polls ahead of the vote to secure a comfortable victory in both houses of parliament while taking between 44 and 47% of the vote.
Meloni’s party is also set to scoop the biggest share of the votes within the coalition, which includes the far-right League, led by Matteo Salvini, and Forza Italia, headed by Silvio Berlusconi, meaning she could become Italy’s first female prime minister.
The coalition’s victory, however, raises questions about the country’s alliances in Europe, and while Meloni has sought to send reassuring messages, her conquest of power is unlikely to be welcomed in Paris or Berlin.
Germany’s governing Social Democratic party warned last week that her win would be bad for European cooperation. Lars Klingbeil, the chairman of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s SPD, said Meloni had aligned herself with “anti-democratic” figures such as Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orbán.

This is good.
This is a fascinating headline, for what it reveals. "Europe" is somehow supposed to be democratic though the EU Commission is not, and the European press supposedly reports the news, but this headline shows obvious bias. If Italy elects Meloni, and as he was from Ursula von der Leyen's "we have the tools" remarks, we see an antidemocratic stance among whatever the Guardian says "Europe" is.
A Meloni win would show the result of a democratic process, if it occurs, and the resistance to the outcome of a democratic process shows the true colors of the Guardian, the UK and other press, as of the "Europe" of the antidemocratic EU commission.
The Guardian has a case of the vapors over a leader who leans right. Lol
They ALL falsely claim that her party is fascist. The left is in panic mode, and will say or do anything at all to remain in power.
Far Right = 1970s middle of the road
The Democrat party of the 1930s was hard line on near zero immigration into the United States partly because of immigration from Italy into the US. FDR was fully on board with that and would not deviate even in the infamous case of the ship St. Louis being denied port.

First it was the UK to elect a Conservative government, and they are cutting taxes and spending, are pro-business and removed restrictions on fracking. Next Italy.
