Russian natural gas exports to Europe have dropped by more than 82% in one year, according to Spain's Energy Transition Minister Teresa Ribera.

"In just a year, the flow of gas from Russia fell by more than 82%. In fact, in January 2021, supplies from Russia accounted for about 40% of the gas consumed in Europe. At the moment, this figure does not reach 10%."

That business, which took a half century to build, is not going back to Russia. Europe has already signed long term contracts with new suppliers.

Russia cannot physically move that gas to new customers for the next decade, if ever.

European gas storage for the Winter is 90% full, well ahead of schedule. European natural gas prices are down about half since their peak on August 26th.

Putin pulled the trigger on his energy weapon, and it backfired on Russia. Natural gas was 25% of the Russian GDP last year, and 85% of their exports went to Europe.

“Russia has drastically cut gas supply to Europe since the invasion of Ukraine”

It’s called a BOYCOTT, a boycott by Europe.

“That business, which took a half century to build, is not going back to Russia.”

The Europeans had already committed to ending the use of fossil fuels in 10 years or so. So no big deal for Russia.

“Europe has already signed long term contracts with new suppliers.”

Which ones, for how much, and when will they have additional LNG the export capacity on-line? Not Cutter, not Algeria, maybe US?

“Russia cannot physically move that gas to new customers for the next decade, if ever.”

Probably not, but look at a GLOBE - Russia is a big country, very big, they’ll do fine sending pipeline gas to China, and more of that is coming on-line, on a regular basis.

It’s literally not though. Germany would be more than happy to pay for it, Russia is the one refusing to sell.

In the short term it will be painful for the EU, but in the long term it will hurt Russia, because once weaned off Russian oil and gas, there is little reason for the EU to ever go back, so Russia is essentially throwing away their largest and closest market. Eventually countries like China will probably fill the void and purchase cheap Russian petroleum, but that’s not like just flipping a switch, it will take at least a decade to build the infrastructure and pipelines over thousands of miles to make shipping large quantities of oil and gas to China economical.

European gas storage for the Winter is 90% full...

What percentage of the season's needs are the stored units?

Canada has played a central role in this by not returning gas turbines to Germany, even as late as the third week of August, but said they would soon be doing this around that time.

“Germany would be more than happy to pay for it, Russia is the one refusing to sell.”

Try using monopoly money to buy fuel in a gas station, as that’s what Euros now are in Russia - and that was due to EUROPEAN ‘sanctions’.

If Europe won’t give Russia a usable currency, Russia won’t sell their product, no different than trying to give a gas station monopoly money.

...and that doesn’t even mention the 5 turbines that Canada REFUSES to send back to Russia.

And how much is gas in the EU compared to last year?

Some neocon here said yesterday it was 83%, and I’ve heard other numbers bandied about, but nothing conclusive from the MSM as to what the true percentage is.

“And how much is gas in the EU compared to last year?”

Quite a bit, although that has as much to do with Greta as their boycott of Russian gas.

Putin pulled the trigger on his energy weapon, and it backfired on Russia. Natural gas was 25% of the Russian GDP last year, and 85% of their exports went to Europe.

Except none of that is true.

For example:

“Oil & Gas Share Of Russia's GDP Dropped To 15% In 2020”

https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/Oil-Gas-Share-Of-Russias-GDP-Dropped-To-15-In-2020.html

You claim oil gas alone accounts for 25% of Russian GDP.
And Russia is already exporting natural gas and oil to China and India, with a combined population of close to 3 Billion.
The entire EU population is still under 500 million.

A very clear, logical and coherent posting.

Scholz will be in the middle east this weekend to sign long term LNG deals. That locks Germany into non-RuZZian sources.

“Russia abandons the construction of a natural gas pipeline to India and Japan”

https://www.seetao.com/details/86540.html

“Russian media recently reported that Alexander Perov, the head of the Russian Energy Security Fund, said that Gazprom had given up on the construction of pipelines in India and Japan considering politics and cost factors.

Gazprom Vice President Yelena Bulmistrova announced at a press conference that the construction of the natural gas pipeline from Russia to India has been postponed, calling it “a route that is too capital-intensive.””

Russia doesn't need Europe as a market since China is buying all that they can and in rubles.

Check the date on your article, propaganda peddler.

‘Moscow unveils details of new gas pipeline to China’
https://www.rt.com/business/562882-russia-china-gas-pipeline/

That pipeline would deliver roughly 50+ billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. Nord Stream 1 delivered roughly 55 billion cubic meters.

Bye bye, Nord Stream 1.

Other than fulfilling existing contracts, if they lucky, the energy relationship the EU once enjoyed via cheap Russia energy is pretty much going to radically change despite the removal of sanctions and/or end of the war/conflict in Ukraine.
