Hurricane Ian
NHC/NOAA ^ | 23 September 2022 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2022 2:32:24 AM PDT by NautiNurse

The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

Good luck! I presume you have preped.

I have friends in Ocean Isle Beach.

Should I be worried about them?

Depends on how close they are to the ocean and how close to sea level.

Thorough analysis for Myrtle Beach, which is one hour, so, just said about 6 inches of rain, 5 to 6 feet storm surge and 45 to 55 mph winds.

Ocean Isle Beach is about one hour north, and stronger affects of the hurricane are going to be south of Myrtle Beach, but TBD. Prayers up.

Prayers for you, too, and all of coastal S. Carolina.

This bad boy, Ian, is not done yet.

Has DeSantis been indicted for botching the hurricane response yet, charged for the hundreds of deaths?

Good for you! My SIL in Lake Wales never lost power but all of her children have, and itā€™s not back on yet. They are hopeful, but of course, I feel like Central Florida gets ignored a lot. The only thing that changes that equation is if Disney has a problem. They are close, but maybe not close enough.

Hide from wind. Run from water. Best wishes for safe passage through the storm.

This. As I said in an earlier post, there is no value there (w/ the state run insurance if you live near the ocean). I stopped paying a decade before paying off my mortgage and no one ever came after me btw. That said, this is my last insurance related post and hope itā€™s the same for others. The topic is certainly worthy of a separate thread at a different time, but it shouldnā€™t detract from breaking news on an historic FL storm (as well as all NNā€™s hard work in maintaining the thread). Many people depend on this thread for up to the minute information, not insurance arguments and storm strength squabbles. We should all think about that before posting.

Damn, that was kind of harsh. Pardon me for daring to share an opinion that was all of 40 words long. With someone other than you. But you felt the need or self importance to jump in and spend 121 words to scold me for daring to say something you weren't interested in.

I'm glad I was busy with hurricane prep and didn't see your snotty comment until now. There's a reason why the old FR members don't post much anymore. Have a great and self-important life.

Praying for you and the others who are also in Ianā€™s path. I pray you are spared any ill effects.

Praying we have heard from all FReepers who were in the path of, or, who decided to ride out, this storm.

Evening, NN. Once again, thank you for your invaluable work on these disaster threads. I’m late checking in but noticed Jersey117 hasn’t posted since the storm hit yesterday.

Ian wasn’t even making the news in the West; seems to have come out of the blue as one for the record books? Hope you’re doing well,
TW

Disney world has its own oil power generator station. Most of the lines are underground so they do not lose power during hurricanes. Disney World is within a separate town called Lake Buena Vista, and all utilities are owned and operated by Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID).

Youā€™re right. When I made my comment, I was referring to the people who actually work at Disney, most of whom live nearby the theme park. So close yet, so far. Disney doesnā€™t need to care about its employees. Well, maybe only *certain* employees are important to Disney Corp. Disney is a big part of its own town and its own special place, given lots of special privileges by TPTB.
