The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

Based in some live feeds earlier, once you got north of Ft. Meyers/Sanibel/Naples area I saw very little storm surge. Roads appeared clear in the sense that they only had a few inches of standing water, not feet.
As you said it appears it the rain is causing more problems in the areas that didn’t get the storm surge.
So, basically anywhere from NC to GA could get hit.
If you were in the northern half of the hurricane, the wind blows toward the ocean, so no surge.
That’s not nearly as good as the two guys in a news vehicle that live-streamed as they drove through our town during a hurricane on the TX Gulf coast back in the late ‘70’s.
As they make a corner, one of those hanging by a chain gas station price signs lets go and hits their windshield at which time they start screaming like little girls.
I hope that video was saved.
Prayers up for all of those in harms way.
Guennie, please check in when you can.
Looks like some scanner feeds are back online:

Yep, Fort Myers and Naples got the worst.
And Naples was far from the eye.
Did he say that? That’s ridiculous.
Sea turtle nests and baby sea turtles don’t do so well in hurricanes:

I see one report where Naples was more than 6’ above the highest tide, a new record. Last was 4.25’ in 2017.
Maybe the lobby of his building is lower than the ground - but I don’t think so. Plus if all of the cars floated away parked in the carports next to the building...
Google Earth is usually pretty accurate (within a foot for elevation). But high tide plus 6’ can’t be 19 feet.
Regardless - lots of devastation, especially Fort Meyers. DeSantis says this will probably be the 4th worst hurricane in the history of the state.
I know most of the coverage was in the Fort Myers Beach area, I haven’t seen as much coverage as to the flooding elsewhere in the city.
I suppose tomorrow we’ll learn a lot more.
Does anyone know how South Venice fared? We have two friends who hunkered down at home there. Last I heard from them was 5:30pm ET. I hope the lack of info from them is just due to downed cell towers, and not something worse...
I don’t think Venice would have gotten much flooding from the surge, probably Cat 1 Hurricane winds at the most.
Yes. Anyone know how Venice and Punta Gorda fared?
Punta Gorda got some nasty winds, I suspect they got hit with some tornados in the eye wall, because the backside winds were worse than the front side.
Wow! I’m not sure whether I should batten down the hatches and make sure the generator has gas, or plan on a family cook-out on Friday. That’s a wild model, indeed!
I think Venice got worse than Cat 1 hurricane winds, but I have no idea about any flooding / storm surge. Assuming our friends made it through OK, it will be interesting to hear from them what their experience was — once they can easily call or text/email.
