The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. Right now, Cape Coral, Port Charlotte, Ft. Myers look to be ground zero landfall.

Looks like my friends are in Zone D, not very far from Zone C. My recollection is that it is a very flat area.
Just zoom in. You can add track and wind arrival times, etc.
If she runs into trouble nobody will come for her because during the storm they will go into only the areas they can reach to help people - evacuation zones they won’t be able to.

Gonna be a comparable storm, except Ian is hitting a very large population area.
Ok, thanks! Once zoomed in I can see this is actually the same map I’d accessed earlier on the NOAA website. It doesn’t zoom to street level, which is what I was hoping for.
Better maybe would be an inundation map that zooms to street level...

There are many webcams lined up along the coast — both the west and the east coasts —that will likely capture Ian’s arrival in Florida.
These cameras were operational as of Tuesday afternoon, but the storm and high traffic could take some offline.

Update Ian - things to know via Desantis briefing:
* Ian now will land a Cat 4 via Desantis Breifing 11:00
* Bridges may be closed as early as tomorrow. Consider this if traveling
* Gas stations may run out of fuel
* Northern Florida has the most vacancies for hotels and places to stay
(allowing pets only for this storm so check)
* Do not leave pets behind
* 58 school districts closed
* 30, 000 on standby to help restore power
* This is a slow moving strom now at 10 miles hourly it will slow more once landing
* Cat 4 will be severe impact
* Ian will not be leaving stat until Fri.
* Tornados have already been seen forming
* This storm will only intend to intensify
* Florida Teams have returned from Puerta Rica to help the state
We have good friends in Venice who live about 10 minutes from the shore. They refuse to leave, too. My husband and I are very worried about them.
I don't understand it. Don't Cat 3-4 hurricanes often rip roofs off houses?
Anyone else in the Venice / Englewood / Port Charlotte / Punta Gorda area "hunkering down and riding it out"? Yikes...
Wow. Our good friends are in the RED Zone A in South Venice, and they refuse to leave. They're about 10 minutes from Caspersen Beach, and there is an inlet / river a couple blocks from their house.
I pray they make it through this hurricane, but I think the storm surge (from all that water around them) may destroy their house. Hope I'm wrong...
This storm is over 300 miles wide...
It will land a Cat 4 storm ....means catastrphic damages.
There is no place for the river water to go once this hits land so it will also flood.
Sorry to say but they’r going to hear the impact of Ian. Most who have been in a Cat 4 say they will never do it again.
I agree. I don't understand why they didn't evacuate. They said "all of their neighbors" aren't evacuating either. This is going to be a CAT 4 at landfall, for crying out loud.
Yeah, but at least they can go on TV and blame DeSantis afterward.
My great aunt was a Fort Myers snowbird. She had a mobile home that got damaged heavily by Wilma. Between that and being widowed, she sold the mobile home and moved to a nearby adult community with more solid construction. She's no longer living, but both her former mobile home and her last rented home are likely to take on a lot of water from Ian. The mobile home might be ripped apart again.
I've long said I'll never live in Florida because of the tropical storms. I just don't want my primary residence to be quite so vulnerable. Disaster can strike anywhere, but this isn't my cup of tea. I'll settle for an occasional visit.
