The drinking water system in Jackson — Mississippi’s largest city and home to more than 160,000 residents — is failing, state officials announced on Monday. Thousands of Jackson residents already have no or little water pressure, and officials cannot say when adequate, reliable service will be restored.
The city water system has been plagued with problems for years, including tens of thousands of residents losing water between one and three weeks during a 2021 winter storm.
At a press conference Monday night, Gov. Tate Reeves said the city’s largest water treatment plants may be completely down.
“The O.B. Curtis plant is not operating anywhere near full capacity,” Reeves said. “We may find out tomorrow it’s not operating at all. We’ll have better visibility on that when we get in there tomorrow.”
Reeves announced he would sign an emergency declaration for the capital city’s water system and create an “incident command center” to distribute water to the city’s residents beginning Tuesday morning.
“Until it is fixed, it means we do not have reliable running water at scale,” Reeves said. “It means the city cannot produce enough water to fight fires, to reliably flush toilets, and to meet other critical needs.”

Then they'll stop picking up trash.
A whole 'nuther bucket o' worms.
I bet houses are cheap there now. Although you probably can’t get house insurance without an active fire hydrant nearby.
Smell like it, too.
This country is really on its way out. A country can not have corrupt and criminal leadership like this and expect to survive.
Any country could attack this mess of a country right now and we would just fall. Heck, Biden has allowed all stripes of enemies to walk right in and set up shop.
“I’m going to JACKSON!”
Loved that song and was living in Jackson when it came out. We were there for 2 years and it was a delightful town, even tough the integration was going full bore. My kids were in grade school. Hurricane Chammil came all the way up to Jackson. We got a tree down on the roof. My youngest son was born in Jackson Hospital. So I have more than an interest in the place.
This occurred in Jackson MS...
Bypass the treatment and push non-potable water to at least get fire flow and toilets working.
Then get the treatment process back online.
Then start flushing & disinfecting, block by block.
Gonna be a while. Gonna need someone who knows wth they’re doing.
FWIW, the Jackson Jambalaya blog is worthwhile for those who want to get some idea of what the media is NOT saying about the city.
My experience is that state Capitols typically are at the head of the line when it comes to doling out legislative gravy.
The corruption in Jackson must be epic to over-ride that.
I don’t think there is one?
It is their State Capital. Ain’t that just grand!
We are viewed as a failed state by most of the world for crap like this. A state capital without plumbing.
As long as the disaster doesn’t strike on YUR watch; then it’s ok to pass the buck
Musical chairs - government style.
Chokwe Antar Lumumba
Actual, or just spiritual, relative of Patrice Lumumba, of (Belgian) Congo?

The Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi is a self described revolutionary. Mayor Chokwe Antar Lomumba has been mayor since 2017 and signed an agreement with the EPA to oversee and upgrade the Jackson water system. The Mayor did not fulfill the agreements with the EPA. Like many “revolutionaries” Mayor Lomumba is self absorbed and apparently does not care a whit for the citizens of Jackson, Mississippi
I wish this were merely entertaining.
Walt Wicks blames it on whitey for leaving the crime and squalor. Shame on whitey for not staying and being pulled down into the filth and crime.
“White flight in the 70s and 80s created a hyperBlack Jackson and now they want it back, but we not going so they trying to kill us off slow and sho’. They just hit fast forward with this flood tbh.”
Go to virtually any former colony of any European nation anywhere and see that it is a ruined shadow of what it once was. There is a reason for that. Particularly in Africa.
Somebody name one that has prospered in economy, freedom and lawfulness since its independence.
There is a common thread to all these failures and it isn’t whitey.
