The first half of a massive double Social Security payment for September is set to go out in just 16 days.
The first payment for eligible individuals, worth $841, will arrive on Sept. 1, while the second one, worth the same amount, will be given at the end of the month. Because some months start on a Sunday, there are three months in 2022 that gave or will give recipients a paycheck twice in one month. The three months are April, September, and December.
However, the funds do not change the total amount a person gets. The Social Security benefit on Sept. 30 will replace the disbursement on Oct. 1. Likewise, the one on April 30 replaced the May 1 payment.
Social Security will be unable to pay out full benefits by 2035 without action from Congress, according to Social Security trustees. However, Reps. John Larson (D-CT) and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) have called for a vote in Congress to extend Social Security benefits this fall by agreeing to the Social Security 2100 bill, which would increase all checks by 2% of the average benefit, according to CNBC.
“It’s long overdue that we make sure that we’re enhancing a program that they need, especially during this pandemic,” Larson told the outlet of the program’s beneficiaries.
Other changes proposed in Larson's bill would include increasing benefits for widows and widowers, applying caregiver credit to people who do not work in order to care for children and other family members, and extend benefits for students up until the age of 26. The funds for the bill would come from taxes on those who make more than $400,000 a year, the bill proposes, according to CNBC.
You are correct. This is about SSI, not regular Social Security retirement, survivor, and disability benefits.
Or squander billions on global warming (ie subsidies to connected parties.)
It is for SSI only as far as I can see. I referenced a WE article earlier on here about it. The OP-cited article here is just extremely poor journalism..
If it is about only “SSI” then it will have no affect on me as I don’t get it. Thanks
Indeed a cover up for the increased price of things thanks to Biden net gain zero.
The way I read this is you have your normal payment split in two. I don’t think we get a second check. If the democrats borrowed to buy votes with a double payment, they’re doing a poor job taking advantage of it. I hadn’t heard of it.
What I’ve said about SSI, I already knew. But I did go back and find the earlier WE article and logged into my own SSA account to confirm. There is nothing about extra payments in it.
There will be an increase in COLA coming for next year, however. Based on inflation, I expect it will be the largest in several decades - maybe 50 years. But that won’t happen until 2023 payments begin.
The give away is in the dollar amount and the dates. $841 is the Federal benefit rate for SSI. SSI is paid on the first of the month, unless the first falls on a weekend or a holiday. Social Security Retirement, survivor, and disability checks are generally paid on either the third of the month, or on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday.
So, the reason the word "Supplemental" didn't appear anywhere in the article is because it's poorly written. The author conflated SSI and Social Security RSDI benefits.
The SS COLA for 2023 could be 10.5%.
This is regarding SSI (Supplemental Security Income) not regular or SSDI benefits.
It’s a simple question, and you could provide the simple answer. I mean as I am reading it, they are dividing the regular payment into 2 payments. Which is total BS. But I make more than that 1,600+ amount, thus the confusion aspect.
Saving muvver erf ain’t cheap or easy. Crazy, yeah. Saving her for?????????
yeah...there’s one month coming up soon based on some government inflation numbers that should confirm it...I think it will be around 8.5 to 9% however...
Biden just provides uniparty/globalist cover.
Good point. I think your figure is more realistic.
Actually, by 2035 a huge wave of Baby Boomers will be dead and there is a big wave of payers after that. The trick is to last until 2035.
True
We do paper returns, but we always owe, so nothing for us to wait for. I'd rather owe than get a refund because that way the government doesn't get interest-free use of our money.
I do think, however, that inflation regular Americans are seeing now is much higher than 10% - especially in food prices.
I shop nearly every day at the Walmart a mile away from me, mainly to buy lunch and dinner for me and the wife who gets back from work at 8PM.
What I’ve been seeing is massive increases in very many food items - way beyond what I was once able to afford. Even things like Stouffer’s Macaroni and Cheese have increased way beyond 10%.... Meat cuts? Steaks are out of the question now. Hamburger is up very significantly.....even some cuts of chicken. About the only good deals I can find are various cuts of pork..... and even they are up more than 10%. To make matters worse, econuts are attacking pork production because of the methane gas......
Government will not use all this, unfortunately. They will lie about the ‘main staple indicators’ on which they base their numbers and lie about to the public.
