Two of the most high-profile Republicans who have stood up to former President Donald Trump’s false claims of election fraud are facing the voters on Aug. 16. And while one of them will almost certainly survive, the other is probably going to lose.
Out of the seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 riot, only one is also running for reelection this year: Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski. And she’s virtually guaranteed to make it to the November ballot — but not necessarily because Alaskans agree with her criticism of “Stop the Steal.” It’s because Alaska has a new top-four primary system where all candidates, regardless of party, run on the same ballot, and the top four finishers advance to a ranked-choice general election. Murkowski may not finish first on Tuesday, but based on her name recognition and cross-party popularity, she’ll definitely be in the top four.
Murkowski’s main opponent is Kelly Tshibaka. Tshibaka has repeatedly questioned the results of the 2020 election, and on a podcast with former Trump staffer Steve Bannon, she said that President Biden’s win in Arizona should never have been certified. Tshibaka is all but guaranteed to make the top four as well, meaning this election-fraud fight won’t be over until November.
The other state holding its primary on Tuesday is Wyoming, the home of Rep. Liz Cheney. Cheney has become the most visible Republican member of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot, and she has not minced words about Trump’s election-fraud claims:

Please let it happen !
Lez Romney the traitor can’t drudge up enough libtards to save her fat ass.
Too bad so sad get ready to party 🎊
Election deniers bad, biology deniers good?
Can’t wait!!!
Don’t jinx it.
It might be too much to hope for.
I think Murkowski survives
This is a puff piece, not even a polling or election analysis.
that would mean a majority of their constituents are...ELECTION DENIERS! That would mean that non-election deniers are the minority.
And if President Trump is made of wood, then he floats, therefore......
At least she gets a very nice, tax payer funded, consolation prize having her net worth increase 600%. Wonder how that happened? hmmmm
The “denier” language is hilarious.
This is like bank robbers cleaning out the bank and then insisting to police it was not robbery but an approved withdrawal.
Any police who claimed it was robbery are “bank withdrawal deniers”.
Why is a Republican who questions election results an “election denier” but a Democrat who questions election results, or even brings lawsuits or tries to prevent the counting of electors in the Senate isn’t?
False election fraud claims my ass!
Has this person been living under a rock?
Thank goodness this part will be over tomorrow!
I’m so sick of Cheney.
“I think Murkowski survives”
She’ll certainly survive *tomorrow* because under Alaska’s new Rigged Choice Voting scheme, all that the primary election determines is which FOUR candidates advance to the November general election.
Obviously Murkowski will be one of the four who advance in the Senate race.
Then in November, Murkowski will likely win, and it will only be because of the Rigged Choice shenanigans, in which she will rake in the “second choice” votes of the other liberal candidates as those candidates are eliminated.
Between that probable outcome and the probable outcome (Palin loses) in tomorrow’s special election, look for liberal PACs to spend huge amounts of money — exactly like they did in Alaska in 2020 — trying to sneak this RCV garbage into as many other states as they can, by getting clueless voters to approve it — exactly like they did in Alaska in 2020.
In case it’s not obvious, RCV’s primary purpose is to ensure that no conservative ever wins another election. Only liberals and “moderates” need apply.
Same reason media says far right and right wing extremists but never far left or left wing extremists. Media biases
I could use the win ...let’s hope fish face and cheney dog lose bigly
“Thank goodness this part will be over tomorrow!”
Tell me about it! I’ve been doing daily searches since forever, posting as often as necessary to keep people (especially in Wyoming) apprised of her ouster status.
Cheney isn’t going away.
