Conservatives are just 15 states away from an unprecedented gathering that could rewrite large parts of the US Constitution and fundamentally change American life.

I expect this kind of howling from the left. Unfortunately, I expect it from the IGNORANT right, as well. There is a sort of mind numbed hand-ringing hysteria that arises from the right and the left on this subject which infuriates me.
These sorts of claims are based in nothing but an absolute and total complete ignorance of the process of an article 5 convention coupled with the kind of paranoid hysteria one normally finds only in Q-bots and people claiming that the hospital ships that came into New York City during the covid pandemic were to offload children coming out of giant underground complexes where they had been systematically tortured and had their adrenochrome extracted.
I expect the sort of bawling shrieking idiocy from the left which asserts that anything that threatens to take power away from DC is a horrible sinister force that should be resisted at all costs. I expect that.
I also have a great deal of sympathy for conservatives who don't trust the process of political change and are skeptical about people wishing to use anything to leave her more power to themselves. I get that. I really do. I have sympathy for anyone who smells a rat and wishes to exterminate it (historical allusion there. You get it or you don't).
That said, please, for God's sake, will you just take the time to educate yourself on the process of an article 5 convention? It is not empowered to rewrite the Constitution. It's not empowered to strip out a Second Amendment right (face palming with force and enough vigor to give myself a headache).
An article 5 convention was PUT INTO THE CONSTITUTION. did you get that? Do you really believe its authors put that in there so that it could be subverted? Really?
It was put into the Constitution BY ITS AUTHORS. Did you read that?? One more time. It was put into the Constitution by the authors. It was done so in order to protect the rule of law when Powers have aggregated to DC in order that the Constitutional form of government itself is threatened. Does that sound just a wee bit like what we have now?
It is fashionable among conservatives who don't even bother to look at the process to raise spectres of a runaway convention, stripped out amendments, blah blah blah. I can't tell you how contemptible those arguments are. They really do remind me of dealing with Qbots who will embrace the most idiotic fantasies..., not because they are stupid, but because they are deliberately ignorant. That is, they don't bother to look at the objections that have been raised to an Article V convention (or if they do, confine themselves to a few John Birch remonstrants) and they CERTAINLY don't check with the excellent responses to objections byMichael Farris (one is here) https://www.audible.com/pd/Michael-Farris-at-Article-V-Symposium-Podcast/B0B34N36N5
Farris has gone over, in detail, EVERY objection by Common Cause and New American and demonstrated them to be specious.
If you are refusing to support an article 5 convention because of some bogeyman about them rewriting the Constitution and taking away all of our liberties and blah blah blah blah, you are simply tiresome. No other way to say it. Just ignorant and tiresome.
You are throwing away possibly the only weapon short of an armed Revolution that is left to you in the tool chest to arrest the progress of tyranny. And you are doing so because you are frankly too lazy to look at what is a wonderfully wise prescient and would be effective tool to reverse the course of tyranny in what used to be a republic. So go ahead and hang on to your myth that the Second Amendment will save you if you wish. Or, you can continue to hold on to a dessicated dream about amber waves of grain and a shining city on a hill and the last best hope for freedom while the whole thing collapses around you.
Be careful what you ask for. I think a convention will not work out like you think.
Hand-ringing?
ping
Be very, very careful what you wish for.
An Article 5 Constitutional Convention can easily be hijacked by the Red states and used to repeal the Second Amendment, put in an amendment codifying abortion, and give the federal government enumerated constitutional powers that they currently do not have.
A Constitutional Convention is playing with fire.
Trump is not rewriting any constitution.
Hell, the far lefties have perverted it so bad it needs to be rewritten. The current interpretation of the Constitution resembles nothing given to us by our Founding Fathers. I mean the bass turds invading America and all other maggots on the planet have Constitutional “rights” to ripoff the America taxpayers. That never used to be in the Constitution. The far left maggots put that in there.
Just kill the Federal Reserve and return to a gold-backed currency.
That will immediately slay Fedzilla and every progressive parasite who lives on it
BS........................
Just 15?
Agree, stupid story
The Yahoos are concerned?
They should worry if the USC is followed as it was intended.
“15 states away”
Looking at the map in that article, I don’t see 15 more going for this idea. Even if you put all of the light green “made progress” states in the convention camp, you still need 9 more. I don’t see it. At best, I see maybe 6, tops: ID, MT, WY, KS, OH, KY.
Article V says that βon the Application of two thirds of the Legislatures of the several States, [Congress] shall call a Convention for proposing amendments.β
The amendments still have to be ratified in the normal course. This would not be the same as rewriting the Constitution from scratch.
You certainly are an optimist. Almost a Pollyanna.
Never forget that the perfidy of the left is fathomless and herculean.
If there is a way to turn this proposed convention into a tool against the American people — the left will find it and use it.
Wrong!
Article V allows the people to introduce Amendments to the Constitution, not to “rewrite” anything.
Those Amendments voted on an approved by the Article V Convention would then have to be approved by 38 of the 50 states, just like every other amendment.
You fail to see that we have been witnessing a re-write of the Constitution ever since Woodrow Wilson used his “living Constitution” argument to allow Federal judges to redefine the Constitution.
What you fear is already here. The Left has gotten you to fear the cure, which was written into the Constitution by the Founders.
This is typical libertarian shallow thinking. How do you think this is going to work out?
Apparently, such a convention would have a pretty free hand in rewriting just about any clause in the US Constitution, or any of its amendments. Or the whole constitution, for that matter.
But what a commotion it would create.
I’m for states’ rights and against the steamrolling federalism that we’re living through.
The federal government was meant to be a federation of states, come together for the common good, and enabled to issue currency, maintain an army to protect all the states, and to regulate interstate commerce.
It was not supposed to be a behemoth, taking control over every aspect of life, taking huge amounts of money and overriding states’ laws.
We don’t need to rewrite the Constitution. We need to follow it.
