Tony Sirico, one of the main stars of "The Sopranos," is dead ... TMZ has confirmed.
Tony played Paulie "Walnuts" Gualtieri, one of Tony Soprano's main guys for every season of the HBO hit show. His brother Robert announced his passing on Facebook saying "It is with great sadness, but with incredible pride, love and a whole lot of fond memories, that the family of Gennaro Anthony "Tony" Sirico wishes to inform you of his death."
Sirico was a big supporter of the U.S. military -- he and James Gandolfini once traveled to Iraq for a rally for the troops there. He continued to support the Wounded Warrior Project organization too.
He's survived by his 2 children, Joanne and Richard, several grandchildren and his siblings.
Tony was 79.

Really enjoyed his acting skills...
He was, essentially, typical of the hundreds of spectacular “true” actors I enjoyed so much from movies of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s...
They were a type of actor that has no place in today’s plastic-people acting profession...
R.I.P. Gennaro Anthony “Tony” Sirico
Supposedly jack Nicholson is in bad shape with dementia ..he could kick off at any time
The mob movie actor "celebrity death trio" began with Ray Liotta.
One of the sickest, yet funny scenes was when Pauli killed his Mom’s best friend after she discovers him burglarizing her home...”I’m going to call your mother!”
picked a bad day to be an old former actor
boy they’re dropping out there
sorry to see anyone go
Christopher] You’re not gonna believe this. He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. The guy was an interior decorator.
Christopher Moltisanti : His house looked like ___!
His character Paulie was like one of my uncles.... Right down to the superstition with cats.
You could just tell that Paulie (Tony) was street wise. He had the body language of a tough guy. He knew how to cuss and where/when to use it effectively.
Funniest line from that episode!
I remember that day well. I miss Vince Flynn the most. He created Mitch Rapp. It was the worst birthday of my life when he died. I loved reading his books.
Saw him on the NYSE floor. He was doing a women’s charity. He is the only one that yelled the F-bomb repeatedly without getting fined. Of what I saw, he wasn’t an actor, he played himself.
Interesting take on it.
Agreed, and his hair was perfect for the character’s persona
Google Larry Storch....
We were fortunate to meet Tony Sirico back in May 2011 at Chris Gasbarro's Fine Wine & Spirits in North Attleborough, Massachusetts. Gasbarro's was doing a big 'Sopranos Wine' promotional event back then. We still have several signed full bottles of Sopranos wine from that event.
The wine bottles were signed by Tony Sirico and Steve Schirripa (who played 'Bobby Baccalieri' on The Sopranos). It was fun -- and surreal -- meeting both of them in person. Gasbarro's generously provided everyone in attendance with a photo with Sirico and Schirripa -- that pic has been in our kitchen since 2011, lol.
Having met Tony Sirico in person (admittedly rather briefly), I would agree with FReepers who say he was just playing himself. Tony Sirico was Paulie Walnuts! He was a really funny guy in person... very similar to his Sopranos character.
Rest in Peace, Tony Sirico. Gone too soon...
RIP. One of my favorites on Sopranos
Here's a funny clip he did running the Bensonhurst Spelling Bee: https://youtu.be/qcp8rN-YqLw
