Every branch of the U.S. military is struggling to meet its fiscal year 2022 recruiting goals, say multiple U.S. military and defense officials, and numbers obtained by NBC News show both a record low percentage of young Americans eligible to serve and an even tinier fraction willing to consider it.
The officials said the Pentagon’s top leaders are now scrambling for ways to find new recruits to fill out the ranks of the all-volunteer force. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks consider the shortfall a serious issue, said the officials, and have been meeting on it frequently with other leaders.
“This is the start of a long drought for military recruiting,” said Ret. Lt. Gen. Thomas Spoehr of the Heritage Foundation, a think tank. He said the military has not had such a hard time signing recruits since 1973, the year the U.S. left Vietnam and the draft officially ended. Spoehr said he does not believe a revival of the draft is imminent, but “2022 is the year we question the sustainability of the all-volunteer force.” ...
An internal Defense Department survey obtained by NBC News found that only 9% of those young Americans eligible to serve in the military had any inclination to do so, the lowest number since 2007.
The survey sheds light on how both Americans’ view of the military and the growing civilian-military divide may also be factors in slumping recruitment, and how public attitudes could cause recruiting struggles for years to come...
In 2021 the annual Reagan National Defense Survey, conducted by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, found that just 45% of Americans had a great deal of trust and confidence in the military, down 25 points since 2018...

“Apparently, you forgot something. Apparently, you forgot this is the United States of America. The most powerful country on this planet. It’s not because we have more money, or we’re better looking. No! It’s because we have something in this country they don’t have in other countries.”

I think your world view is at least damned close to reality and probably smack dab on top of it.
There is no federal institution that is not failed and harmful. None.

I guess they don’t teach civics in high school anymore. The Progressives are against a People educated about their own rights and responsibilities.
Texas HAS it’s own militia. Pretty much like every other state in the Union. The Organized State Militia of Texas is the Texas State Guard. The unorganized or “reserve” militia is the citizens and legal residents of Texas, over 18, under 65 and legally and physically capable of bearing arms. The “reserve” militia is subject to call to active duty by the Governor and must provide their own arms and ammunition.
The Federal Government has absolutely no say in the matter.
The US military is too small to “crush” a general uprising or a secession with arms. The number are not there.
Total defeatist BS. A secession of many states does not disenfranchise anyone. A red state(s) that secedes will get a NEW federal government. One that actually defends the border etc. The local politics stays the same. You are so FOS.
One major change over the last 100+ years is that a military pedigree was considered essential among the leaders of this country back then — in both politics AND business. That hasn’t been the case in years. There’s no reason to take the military seriously anymore in a nation that is run by draft dodgers and an assortment of clowns and @ssholes.
BTW, looks like their new Pizza Delivery MOS is a real hit.
Disagree. The USA would do well with a big forward deployed Marine Corp and a huge 1,000 ship Navy. We need a teeny tiny standing army with a sole mission of border control.
By design, our Armed Services are being weakened.
Today’s military is truly an Alice in Wonderland fantasy. To join it, you must be racist, ignorant, and believe things that are impossible: all whites are oppressors, men can become women, women can become men, the country you are defending is bad, your religion is wrong.
And the Left wonders why it can’t find recruits?
Sounds like an official denial. Look out youngins, the draft is coming.
You’re not wrong, but that ain’t going to happen as long as this country is run by draft dodgers and an assortment of clowns and @ssholes.
Thanks to both of you for your analysis. Whether you realize it or not, the two of you are bringing out good points from one another.
The British model-—and it worked well enough for a couple of centuries. Let the French (or the Germans) run Europe and let Britannia rule the waves.
Yep. The military is mostly white men. Trash them, and this is what you get.
Next draft - blacks, faggots/trannies, and females only. Good luck...
I could go on and on about the moral of the US armed forces right now, but I can’t due to time constraints. Suffice to say, many of those who are now serving regret ever enlisting and encourage others not to. Heck, I’m a federal employee at local military base, and when I can retire, I’m doing so with all dispatch.
If they allowed white Christians to join they just may make their goal. In the past 10 years EVERY white Christian young person I know who who has tried to join has been thwarted and denied entry into the military- regardless of branch, On the flip side, gang bangers seem to have no trouble at all getting in.
Who wants biteme to be their CIC?
