Trump didn’t simply tarnish the GOP brand in certain circles — that’s a very temporary thing, and Republicans of all stripes had done plenty to tarnish the brand on their own. Trump habituated Republicans and conservatives into conspiracy-theorizing, into lib-owning as the highest undertaking, and into defending corruption and abuse of power.
Yet Trump brought about the end of Roe. That is something every prior Republican decidedly couldn’t do or refused to do.
The majority in Roe included five Republican appointees. The majority in 1992 upholding Roe in Planned Parenthood v. Casey included five Republican appointees. Pro-life voters were told endlessly to elect Republican presidents and senators in order to overturn Roe, and again and again, after Souters and O'Connors and Kennedys, this proved folly. Even George W. Bush, the closest thing to a religious Right president, didn’t give us two reliable votes against Roe.
It took, of all people, Trump to give us a majority more wedded to the Constitution than to abortion.
No issue in politics is more important than abortion because no cause is more righteous than protecting innocent babies from slaughter. No president did more good on abortion than Trump. So this makes things complicated.
How is a pro-life conservative who is fully aware of Trump’s crippling vices and his lasting harms to feel today?
One relevant question is whether a different Republican nominee would have yielded as good results, Supreme Court-wise, in 2016 through 2020 as Trump did. First, would Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, John Kasich, or Ted Cruz have beaten Hillary? Maybe anybody with a pulse would have defeated that obviously corrupt, thoroughly unlikable, entirely opportunistic politician. Then again, maybe it took Trump's unique appeal to the working-class voter in order to carry Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in 2016.

Same boat! Trump was my 14th choice in 206. I had to vote for him in the general because there was no other choice. I was wrong. This man had winning policies and did what he said he was going to do. I am totally prepared to vote for Trump all the way if he runs in 2024. If not it’s DeSantis!
“The Lord has used imperfect men all through history”
THAT is a very salient point.
At least once a day I wish Donald J. Trump was back in the White House. He’s a complicated man, but a GREAT President.
That’s what they say on dating sites: “It’s complicated”
Timothy “Pussy” Carney. A perfect name for a carnival barker. /spit
There was certainly that to work through, but I gave up with...Trump’s crippling vices and his lasting harms...
I’m glad Trump was President. Voted for him twice. I hope Trump does not run again. Desantis, Cruz and even maybe Rand Paul would be my preference.
“Asked if he felt he played a role in this outcome, having appointed three conservative justices to the court while in office, Trump said “God made the decision.”
And liberal heads exploded throughout the land.
And there was great joy.
I remember talking with liberal friends in New England who couldn’t stand Republicans but who had great respect for the Bushes. Then I realized why - because the Bushes were totally ineffectual, accomplished nothing, would attack none of the left’s sacred cows, and in private said all the right things about “those people” (us). A guy like Trump, who accomplished an enormous number of positive things despite the disloyalty of the FBI and many in his own party, enrages them.
Nothing complicated about it you wuss.
I doubt ANYONE who voted for Trump in 2016 fully trusted Trump. I sure didn’t, but still voted for him.
But I suspect that EVERYONE who voted for Skunk Cabbage in 2016 did FULLY TRUST her. I sure did. I knew the United States as a free country was over if she won...I fully trusted her to carry that through, in exactly the same way as what we’re seeing Biden do.
So for me it was between the following:
1: A Democrat that I was sure would destroy the country.
2: A Republican who said the right things, but had no record in office to back him up.
It wasn’t a hard choice for me. But it sure was a hard choice for many other so-called conservatives (like Ben Shapiro, Mark Levin, and Ted Cruz).
You were. And he was.
But you will not be allowed to vote for him. A-Damned Shithead (D-CA) and that maniac Merrick Garland will indict him sometime in January of 2024 in an effort to prevent him from running.
And at that point, our conversion to Venezuela will be complete.
And then *I* will have to decide: Live pathetically as a slave, on my knees, or to do otherwise.
Carney is aptly-named, hawking his Novakian wares only to find no one wants them, or him.
'Crippling vices' to describe the most straight-edge world leader in history. Hey, Carney: *spit*
All the cowards who are so easily intimidated by their TeeVee. People have been praying and working for this -correct- decision for half of century and this guy suddenly turns yellow because of the momentary blowback.
Sheesh, not the kind guy I want in my fox hole. Typical assistant Democrat RINO. They really Do Not want to win. They want to talk tough but do not have the courage of conviction.
trump/musk revenge tour 2024...
our turn to nominate an ineligible african-american...
Then, in the weeks leading up to our next season, one guy suggested we invite his friend to play for us. The friend had just moved into the area, had played collegiate hockey years earlier, and was looking to get back on the ice just to help get in shape and have some fun.
The friend — I’ll call him “Donald” — was a nice guy off the ice, but was a total honey badger on skates. He wasn’t a dirty player, but he took no sh!t from anyone and even the most intimidating opposing players cowered in fear whenever he stepped on the ice.
Some of the guys on my team didn’t like him — because they were embarrassed that they could never match his intensity and his all-out effort. They were perfect examples of LOSERS.
I loved the guy — and still remember him fondly to this day, years later … because he turned us into winners and made us league champions.
“and into defending corruption and abuse of power.”
Yeah, okay. Sure. The lack of examples is telling. “Pantywaist” is being kind.
Enough with the pearl-clutching, Carney.
How ‘bout we just say, “Trump, you magnificent bastard, you did it!”
Let’s just look at the totality of it. Trump brought our troupes home when the army lied to keep them in harms way. Trump exposed the Ukraine/CIA scandal. Trump built as much wall as he could with the whole federal government trying to stop him. Trump gave us a great economy. Trump exposed the RINOs who faked their allegiancy to smaller government or christian values. Trump did what he said he would do. RINOs get into office like Lee and Romney to take over republican positions and deny conservatives enough votes to do what the people want.
These so called middle of the road republicans are not middle of the road at all. They are elitist swamp creatures. Their roll is to deny the voters a nominee who will fulfill their wishes. Trump, with all his flaws, does what he promises. He is loyal to his voters. The swamp can’t handle that.
