Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is pushing to allow military vets and ROTC instructors to carry guns on school campuses for classroom defense.
Graham tweeted on June 3, “It is time to mobilize our retired and former service members who are willing to help secure our schools. Our schools are soft targets. They contain our most valuable possession — our children, the future of our country — and must be protected.”

Said the childless single gay guy.
The other day Gram was cozying up to Schumer on gun control BS. Graham is always in CYA mode.
He has a talent for saying the right thing, and still sounding creepy.
Why attack Graham when he finally says something that makes sense?
LinDUH, sit down and stfu.
That should have been done years ago.
How,are you gonna vote on the liberals gun law proposals lindsay? Are you gonna side with them in disarming the public?
I wish they were the TEACHERS!!!!!
I’m assuming there have been no mass shootings by veterans? Oh right. That’s not the case. What could go wrong?
The tweet has possibilities, but I believe this to be a state and local issue. Perhaps the notion might be introduced as bills in state legislatures, debated, refined, and voted on.
Security for our young ones is critically important, could this be worth pursuing?
Whoops, I'd guess 50% of cops are veterans.
Absolutely...
I don’t think there’s any one solution. Armed teachers isn’t going to work everywhere. Can you imagine the bad parts of Chicago, St Louis, having armed teachers?
I would imagine school districts have been sent money for security and if so, it looks like Uvalde decided to start a small dept of mall cops.
The HS I went to in the 80s had doors that would latch when shut and not be able to open them from the outside but that was selective, probably with a key, because sometimes they could be opened from the outside. Seems that was the case in Uvalde. When the teacher shut the door, it could still be opened from the outside. Whether it was supposed to be that way or not hasn’t been reported afaik.
I used to hate when I was late for school and I couldn’t get in any the side and back doors and had to go in the front door.
A good set of rules and procedures would have prevented Uvalde, had they been followed. Getting teachers to follow them is another thing. The school cops didn’t even follow their own procedures.
A lot of homes have home automation now with a camera at every door, sensors on every door and window that alert you when they’re open. Seems like a system could be designed for schools.
Virtue posturing.
There are probably many Vets and ROTC instructors who would be qualified to be trusted with loaded weapons in a school full of children but not all.
INMHO they would have to be vetted and trained just as any other candidate.
We all know there are many military vets who have issues and many more who have no meaningful weapons training or experience.
Not all Vet’s are created equal, sorry. Some folks touched a gun once in boot camp and flew a desk for the rest of their hitch. This blanket view of Veterans being some sort of Rambo rescuers is built in Hollywood.
Now, if they said Combat Vets...
That is NOT our military.
Oh, you meant convert the military into teachers. I misread.
You said it better, Iron.
