I vacationed in Hawaii 25-30 years ago and, for a state that heavily relied on tourism, they did not seem to be the most friendly state. Maybe they had too many tourists, or maybe it has changed, but that was my perception then.

When I was in Hawaii I felt this too, but I don’t hold it against them. Native peoples are often resentful when they are reduced to working in the tourism serving an outsider population that politically and financially dominates their land. Sure they also benefit from it, but sovereignty over your land is important to everyone. I imagine how I would feel if I were in that situation.
