School Shootings Aren’t Caused By Faulty Gun Laws But By The Collapse Of The Family
The Federalist ^ | MAY 27, 2022 | JOHN DANIEL DAVIDSON

At a press conference Wednesday in the aftermath of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott almost said something profound. Almost.

Asked by reporters about gun laws in Texas, Abbott responded by talking about the need for more “mental health-resources” — a catch-all term often bandied about by Republican politicians in the wake of mass shootings like the one in Uvalde, in which 19 elementary school kids and two teachers were killed by a deeply disturbed 18-year-old.

Abbott, though, began going in a different direction with his response. He noted that 18-year-olds have been able to buy rifles in Texas for more than 60 years, and then asked: “Why is it that the majority of those 60 years we did not have school shootings and we do now?”

But then he stopped short, saying, “The reality is I do not know the answer to that question.”

Maybe Abbott really doesn’t know. Maybe it’s too much to expect an unimaginative politician like him to delve into the myriad forces of social and cultural decay that produce 18-year-old mass murderers. Maybe he was just trying to deflect questions from a hostile press corps.

After all, in the wake of school shootings, GOP politicians tend to snap into a defensive crouch as predictably as Democrats tend to regurgitate irrelevant talking points about gun control, as President Biden did earlier this week. So maybe that’s all this was.

But whether he meant to or not, Abbott’s comments approached the heart of the matter. Indeed, he could have made an even more expansive claim. Texas has been awash in firearms of all kinds for two centuries, ever since the first American empresarios began arriving in Texas at the invitation of the newly formed Mexican Republic. For the past 60 years or so, there...

This is our punishment for taking God out of our lives. There is a spiritual battle going on in our lives, and our best defense against the forces of satan is prayer.

HOOOORAH!

Somebody FINALLY said it.

All of todays trouble point back to the lack of morality that is brought about as a result of lack of family structure.

I wonder how much of this is related to the two years of school shutdowns?

The period between ages 16 and 18 are crucial for teenagers. This is when they are first experiencing adult love and rejection. The new emotions are intense and they can overwhelm. Being Isolated at this transitional age can be devastating if the child cannot socialize and has no parent to guide them through it.

Quit this collapse of the family saw. It is caused by the lack of attention to the mentally ill. Every one of these school shootings was committed by a rageful mentally ill young man, that was on the mental illness radar but nothing was done. We need to up our treatment of the mentally ill and help their families deal with them. As it is, we ignore them until they do something hideous.

We used to bring our guns to school during hunting seasons.

Have the buss drop us off at a point from our house so we could hunt our way home.

Nobody even batted an eyelash.

The collapse of the family plus the widely promoted liberal idea that violence is justified if someone of a lower social status (such as but certainly not limited to white, heterosexual, Christian, Trump supporter, etc.) disrespects you.

I agree, society is messed up and getting worse. however, HOW & WHY is this resulting in these young men deciding to go into schools and killing kids and teachers? They could go and do any number of other things, like just off themselves. Why the killing of defenseless kids? I don’t get that.

Dr Steve Turley just gave a Master Class on how the ills of our nation are spiritual. He hits spirituality, education, church, and family.

I highly recommend each FReeper check it out.

If you teach a young boy that he’s a piece of garbage that is the cause of all the problems in the world, then expose him to rage and hate everyday, then expect a few of them to believe it and accept who they’re told they are then act on it.

This news article "HITS the NAIL DIRECTLY on the HEAD."

Unfortunately, the evidence FOR IT will be paid as much attention to as the evidence being presented for the 2020 ELECTION FRAUD.

My list of root causes. They probably all rank #1, so no particular order:

* Kicking God out of the nation.
* Godless Democrats.
* No school prayer.
* Breakdown of morals.
* First person shooter games and Internet gaming.
* Broken families without Dads.
* Women’s Liberation sending moms to the workforce and leaving kids at home alone.
* Slaughtering babies which desensitizes the nation to the death of innocents.
* 20th Century nihilism resulting from two world wars.
* WW II recruited women into the workforce.

“Guns” doesn’t even make the list.

People here are probably not going to like the next sentence.

Perhaps gun shops should not sell guns to persons under 21 that lack either a substantial year-to-date paystub or accompanying person.

The background check systems are deeply flawed both in their lack of privacy for gun purchasers and in cases such as the present one, their screening ability.

I agree with your list with the exception of first-person shooter video games. Millions (probably tens of millions) of people play these day in and day out with no problems.
