Veteran US statesman Henry Kissinger has urged the West to stop trying to inflict a crushing defeat on Russian forces in Ukraine, warning that it would have disastrous consequences for the long term stability of Europe.
The former US Secretary of State and architect of the Cold War rapprochement between the US and China told a gathering in Davos that it would be fatal for the West by the mood of the moment, forgetting the proper place of Russia in the European balance of power.
Dr Kissinger said the war must not be allowed to drag on for much longer, and came close to calling on the West to bully Ukraine into accepting negotiations on terms that fall very far short of its current war aims.
“Negotiations need to begin in the next two months before it creates upheavals and tensions that will not be easily overcome. Ideally, the dividing line should be a return to the status quo ante. Pursuing the war beyond that point would not be about the freedom of Ukraine, but a new war against Russia itself,” he said.

I don't believe expelling the Russians from Ukraine would be a "crushing defeat".
And just pushing the Russians out of Ukraine would still mean a helluva lot of destruction that's already gone on inside Ukraine.
I would not support the Ukrainians trying to push on toward Moscow for a "crushing defeat". In the first place, I think they could, and if they got to the point where it looked like they might succeed, the probability of Russia using their nukes becomes very high IMHO.
Yes, it was his realpolitic that said it would be good for the west to open up to China.

Kissinger is proposing an “off-ramp” for the global elites, who are starting to realize they’re pissing up a Ukrainian rope.
Their supervisors at the Troll Farm haven’t had time to rewrite the Party Line. The Good Comrades will shortly be informed as to how to explain that one of the worst monsters to ever have been a part of the Deep State (and have Hillary sit on his lap) is now a wise and insightful elder who should be listened to because Putin is a wise, Christian patriotic leader.
When a globalist like Kissinger comes out publicly to tell the other globalists they had best negotiate a resolution now, you can be sure he has a good reason. Continuation of this war could lead to a breakup of the EU, and that would be the death knell to their project. Kissinger is just alerting them to this possibility.

Not sure I agree 100%, but it was a humiliated Germany that started WWII. If you cannot annialate your enemy, it may be best to let him save face at least.

You are absolutely correct. Consider:
When Obama was president, Putin invaded Crimea.
When Trump was president, Putin behaved.
When Biden was president, Putin invaded Ukraine.
The pattern here is obvious. Yet no one in the mainstream media cares to admit it. I suppose they are all too busy covering for their friends in the Democrat party.
